Maja Ross Andres - On the Cover

CANDY MAGAZINE

August 2003

Candy Teen Model 2003 finalist Maja (pronounced Ma-ha) Ross Andres couldn't be any happier when we asked her to be our poster girl for August. Her sweet, bedimpled smile, easygoing disposition (we thought she was shy until she started cracking jokes minutes into the shoot), carefree attitude, and truly big heart won our hearts at Candy. Read on and discover this cover girl's dreams, idiosyncrasies, and pretty mature musings for a soon-to-be 15-year-old!

I'm Gonna Be A Supermodel
Maja has always believed she'd get into the modelling scene someday. Ever since she can remember, she'd gamely pose for her mom and join beauty contests when she was younger. Recently, Maja joined a modelling workshop where she had the chance to sashay down the ramp a la Kate Moss. The confident 14-year-old shares, "I hardly get stage fright before a show because I don't allow fear to prevent me from fulfilling my dream!"

Cover Girl Dreams
When she saw the announcement for this year's Candy Teen Model Search, Maja felt a strong urge to submit her entry. She knew joining it would be the first step toward fulfilling her dream. When she learned she made it as one of the eight finalists, Maja was stunned. "When I got a call from the Candy team, I got so nervous, I handed the phone to my mom. As soon as she put down the phone, we just started screaming and jumping up and down! I was so excited at the news that I grabbed my lola and danced around with her, too!"

A Real Foodie

This is one girl who love to eat! In fact, she dares us to try her original concoction: McDonald's french fries dipped in McFlurry! "My barkada also loved it the moment they realized how good it tasted." This sweetie also has a weakness for shrimp cooked "any way you like it". She shares some food for thought, "When you're hungry, it's no use trying not to dirty your fingers while eating. Eat with gusto! Magpakatotoo ka na lang!"

Getting Serious

It is no doubt Maja has got big, big plans for the future. She hope to be a supermodel, a Hollywood actress ("Julia Roberts is my idol because she's a great actress"), and star in her own telenovela ("I want to play the underdog, the one who always cries in the show"). But Maja's biggest dream is to form her own charity for street children - as soon as she's established herself as a model. "When I see street children, I feel sad for them," she calmly reveals while being made up for this shoot.

As soon as Steven, our makeup artist, announced that he was done prepping Maja, she slipped into her outfit, took her cue, and flashed her picture-perfect smile. Without a doubt, this girl is truly ready for her cover shoot - and for the world!
