            Pulguksa Temple

 ( Most Famous Temple in Korea.

The outstanding architectural achievement of the Shilla Kingdom. It was built in 751 . The largest temple in Korea with more than 80 buildings deserves to be called the Buddhist Land. Pulguk means Buddha's country or the Land of Happiness, where people live in plenty, comfort & pleasure.

The Committee of World Cultural Assets of UNESCO designated and officially registered Pulguksa

as World Cultural Assets in 1995.)-->

                Sukkuram Grotto

 ( The grotto , with its dome covered with earth, looks like a cave. It was built in 751 . The circular main hall enshrines the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, which is known as the world's most perfect Buddha image. Many Buddha images are carved in relief on the rocks outside the grotto. )-->

                Folkcraft Village

( It is the place where you can see the past and the present works of local folkcrafts such as pottery including Shilla's earthen ware, metal works, wood works, jewelry & traditional embroideries. You can also buy them at reasonable prices.

( This forest dates back to the foundation of Shilla.

Kyerim is a forest covered with beautiful old trees and the legendary place in which the Kim clan of Kyongju originated )-->

                Hyanggyo

 ( Kyongju Confucius Academy. The memorial tablets of Korean & Chinese saints are enshrined in this building. Confucian ideas dwelled in all respects of Koreans' lives from birth to death. We can't find out any other right way of life than Confucian ideas like perfect virtue, righteousness, courtesy virtue, wisdom and faith )-->

                Sokbinko

( Stone Ice Storehouse )

Located in Wolsong Castle ( built in 101, this castle was used as the palace of king ). Sokbingko was a storehouse for preserving blocks of ice during the Choson period. -->

                Onung

 ( Five Tombs ) Onung is the site of Park Hyokkose, the founding father of Shilla & his wife , Alyong, the second king to the fifth without the fourth. Onung is a kind of sacred ground for Shilla people because five founding fathers of Shilla take an everlasting rest. -->

                Posukjung

( Playground of Shilla Kings. The royal palace that seems to have been has perished and what is left is an abalone like structure thought to be used as an outing place with recitation of poems . King hosted banquets and other entertainments, passing the cups around on the stone watercourse in the shape of an abalone.)-->

                Namsan

( Holy place of Shilla culture. Namsan is a mountain which was believed to be holy, and there are more than 40 valleys, a hundred temple sites, about 80 statues of Buddha and about 60 stone pagodas around it. The mountain itself is praised as cultural heritage. Namsan in Kyongju can be called an unprecedented open museum in the world.

                 Yangdong Folk Village

( Home of nobility, Yandong village in which Shilla's traditional culture has been passed down is a place where the tourist can experience customs and life styles of Shilla's aristocrats. The old houses are all well maintained, providing a wealth of clues as to the lifestyles of old Korea, particularly those of the aristocratic class. This village, with hoary, antique tile roofed houses gathered closely is the typical village of the nobility that was formed during the 15th and 16th centuries. There stand about 150 tile roofed houses, about 360 thached houses along the ridge, and many antique style houses. The whole village was designated as a cultural asset. )-->

                  Oksan Seowon

( Confucian School. It is one of the Confucian school with the most beautiful scenery. This confucian school was built in memory of a famous scholar of the Choson Dynasty. )-->

                  Tokrakdang

 ( Lee onjok, a famous scholar of the Choson Dynasty, built this house after retirement to the countryside. )-->

                  Katbawi

( Great stone Buddha with a stone hat on his head sitting on top of Palgong mountain . It is well known for its effectiveness on people's players. )

                    Hahoe Folk Village in Andong

( Hahoe Folk Village keeps Korean's Traditional Way of Life. This village is almost encircled by the Nakdong River creating a panoramic beauty. White sand beach along the river also surround the village. Three sides of the village are surrounded by a river. Hahoe Folk Village keeps alive the virtue of Confucianism, the traditional way of life, and the artistic spirits of the old artisans. Hahoe Byul Shingut Mask Dance play is performed on every Sunday from March at Hahoe Village.

It became more widely known to the world after Queen Elizabeth ¥± of England had visited here in 1999. )-->

                     PongJungsa Temple

 ( Buddhist Temple in Andong. Its main temple is the oldest wooden building and succeeded to the architecture mode of Shilla. The Queen of England, Elizabeth¥± visited this temple in April of 1999. )-->

                      Tosan Seowon

( Confucius Academy. Andong is the hometown of korean confucius literati who has been the ruling class of Choson Dynasty. Tosan Seowon was found by Toikye, Lee Hwang, one of the greatest confucius scholars in korean history. The main stream of korean confucianism has been formed from this academy. )

                        Hainsa Temple in Hapcheon

 It is one of the three largest temples in Korea, where the Tripitaka Koreana is kept. This temple was founded in 802.

World renowned Tripitaka Koreana has also been preserved in the main buildings of this temple. This Tripitaka is a great holy Buddhist scripture carved on about 80,000 wooden printing plates, which has been completed in 16 years.    The Tripitaka & the buildings housing the Tripitaka is
