HISTORICAL SCOTLAND

No one can travel far in Scotland without stumbling, often by chance, across some of the place names from the past that recall strong,historical memories.

Bannockburn, Culloden, Killiecrankie, Glencoe names that ring with excitement and sadness. To describe the thousands of attractions that Scotland has in a site of this size would be impossible, but here are a few of the main attractions, all within easy travelling distance.

Glenfinnan - Monday 19th August. "Bonnie Prince Charlie" raised his standard to the assembled Jacobite Clans. The 1745 rising had begun. Visitor Centre and Memorial.

Culloden - Highlanders defeat on 16th of April 1746 at Culloden Moor. Visitor Centre alongside Battlefield.

Robert Burns Cottage in Alloway just south of Ayr. "Scotlands Greatest Poet."

Cawdor Castle in Inverness where William Shakespear's Macbeth was said to have murdered Duncan.

The Trossachs - Rob Roy Macgregor Country. Callander- Rob Roy Visitor Centre.

Eileen Donan Castle in Lochalsh, was home for Christopher Lambert and Sir Sean Connery in the Movie Highlander.

Glamis Castle in Tayside. King Malcolm II was murdered here in 1034. In 1537 Lady Glamis was burned alive for witchcraft. Of course it was birthplace of Elisabeth Bowes Lyon the Queen Mother.

Edinburgh Castle and World famous Zoo

Discovery point in Dundee, one of Scotlands most exciting visitor attractions. "Captain Scott of the Antarctic" Polar exploration vessel the roal research ship Discovery.
