IMPERIAL PALACE
Back to Las Vegas Strip TRAINSTATION
LOCATION
+++++
Prime location on the strip, right across from Caesars Palace.
The cheapest big hotel at center strip is  a great value, but if you can spend a little more you'll get classier digs elsewher. Check quikbook.com or IP's own website specials for the best rates.
RATES

Rooms are a tad small, and just a little worn, but still bright & cherry and a great value for the location. The buildings are a messy labrinth, and the main elevator bank is overused; get a hotel map and seek out other elevator banks towards the back.

CASINO
+++
Mid-size casino is livelier and more fun than some will give it credit for. On recent weekend night, the "dealer-tainers" dressed as Little Richard, Elvis and Tina Turner were enthusiastically dealing $5 blackjack...now a rarity at strip resorts. Only at busiest periods do minimums climb to $10.
A plain, rectangular pool. This did not discourage an abundance of bathers on my visit. One advantage was lots of water-misters, to cool off the ocean of concrete around the pool. In summer, pool closes at 4PM on Tue & Thur in preparation for a Hawaiian luau.

Adequate free parking in the rear garage. Note where you park, or you'll have a hard time finding your car. Best to enter from the rear off Koval Lane. Avoid Audrie Rd, which has traffic flow problems where it meets Flamingo Road just off Las Vegas Blvd.

ATTRACTIONS
++
Classic automobile museum on 5th floor of parking garage; save the admission fee by printing out free coupons.. There's a monorail stop here, which is shared with Harrah's.
FOOD
+
As Phyllis Diller would say, "Don't eat here!"
WALKING DISTANCE
+++++
Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, Fountains of Bellagio, Mirage Volcano, Sirens of Treasure Island, Monorail, Fashion Show Mall, Eiffel Tower Experience at Paris, Desert Passage Mall at the Alladin.
You will get lost here several times on a typical stay. Always park directly across from a garage elevator. That way, you can see your car from the elevator, and won't waste time looking around for your car on a floor where you're not sure you parked. Practice stress-reducing techniques for when you must wait for an elevator, which may stop at almost every floor.

Sahara, Riviera have a similar labrinthine layout, but IP beats them for location and lively ambiance. One rung lower on the totem pole from the Tropicana, which has far superior grounds and pool area.
Best value at center strip for a full-service hotel. Ther are no nasty add-on fees, like energy surcharges or mandatory phone fees whether you use the phone or not. You can walk anywhere on the strip worth walking to.
