YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown area map

Welcome to one of the most fascinating regions of USA. The Mahoning Valley is nestled between Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Canals and railroads helped to develop the area as an industrial center in the second half of XIX century. Steel was king here. Youngstown Republic Iron & Steel, Youngstown Sheet & Tube . . .
A dense urbanized area, from Warren to Campbell and Lowerville. Niles, Girard, Sthruters, Hubbard.
Of course Youngstown. Great industrialists: David Tod, Wick, Butler, Stambaugh, Campbell. Youngstown was a great city indeed: Federal St., Wick Ave., Belmont Theatre, Idora Park. . .

Back in time? Come with me and take the interurban line to Sharon, across the border line. See the Sharon Steel, the queen company of the Shenango Valley, in Pennsylvania. Sharon, Farrell, Hermitage, we continue towards New Castle, another great industrial city, and this trip ends again in Youngstown.
