COLUMBUS  

Ohio capital city. Founded in 1812 at the banks of the Scioto river. Along National Route (US-40) established in 1833 (actual Broad Street).
State St. is the civic center of the city: State Capitol, Ohio Theatre, Public Library, Franklin Park.
High St. is the main avenue, running from south (German Village, Brewery district) to north: Short North commercial district, OSU (Ohio State University, 1873), Ohio State Fair Grounds.

         

Columbus is a great industrial center: shoe, brewery, steel industry, automotive (GM, Honda) and research (OCLC, Battelle, Compuserve, Chemical Abstracts). But also is the hub of the service sector in Ohio (Government, Education, Health, Banking, Insurance).
Today Columbus is Ohio´s largest city with more than 700.000 inhabitants and 1.540.157 in the metropolitan area (US Census 2000).
