| Baby Socks I did not measure my gauge, but used size 2 dpns and probably � oz. or less of leftover Opal per pair of socks. Cuff: Cast on 36 stitches onto dpns. Knit 8 rounds in k2, p2 rib. Knit 16 rounds plain. Foot: Knit 18 stitches with waste yarn. Go back to beginning of round and knit 16 more rounds plain. Toe shaping: Arrange stitches so 18 are on 1st needle, 9 are on 2nd needle, and 9 are on 3rd needle. Round 1: On 1st needle�k1, ssk, knit to last 3 st, k2 tog, knit 1. On 2nd needle�k1, ssk, knit to end of needle. On 3rd needle�knit to last 3 st, k2 tog, knit 1. Round 2: Knit. Repeat these two rounds two more times (until you have a total of 24 st). Then repeat Round 1 three times (until you have a total of 12 st). Graft toes. Heel shaping: Remove waste yarn, and place stitches on two needles. You will have 18 stitches on one needle and 17 stitches on the other needle Knit across first needle, picking up 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the row (giving you 20 stitches). Knit across the second needle picking up 2 stitches at the beginning of the row and 1 stitch at the end of the row (giving you 20 stitches). Arrange stitches so 20 are on 1st needle, 10 are on 2nd needle, and 10 are on 3rd needle. Round 1: On 1st needle�k2 tog, knit to last 2 st, ssk. On 2nd needle�k2 tog, knit to end. On 3rd needle�knit to last 2 st, ssk. Repeat toe shaping to complete heel. |
