NZ Canoe Polo announces senior women's team for 2005 World Games by Shelley O'Dwyer, MCPA Publicity Officer. 16 April 2005 New Zealand Canoe Polo has announced this week, the senior women's team to compete at the 2005 World Games in Duisburg, Germany. The World Games is one of the largest global sporting events of 2005 and will be competed between 14th-24th of July, with the canoe polo competition taking place on the 17th and 18th of July.The top 6 men's and women's canoe polo teams from around the world will compete in each grade. The New Zealand senior women's canoe polo team gained a top 6 placing at the 2004 Canoe Polo World Championships, thereby making them eligible to attend. After a solid performance at the 2004 World Champs, the New Zealand senior women are perceived as serious medal contenders. Final New Zealand senior women's team selections took place over the Easter Weekend in Wellington. The Easter training camp and subsequent selection was the culmination of many month's rigorious training and build-up by the squad. Mainland Canoe Polo congratulates the senior women players on their selection, especially Mainland members Tonille Crombie, Claire Osborne and Jenni Gadd. Tonille has again been named team captain - having successfully led the 2004 women's team to their top 6 placing at the Canoe Polo World Championships in Japan.
