Once a Mainlander, always a Mainlander

Rosemary Wright

While Rosemary Wright may claim she is from a totally non-sporting background, she may be surprised at how 'sports-minded' she actually is. Getting a taste for the life of a sports person by providing support to her canoe polo playing daughter Jo (Wellington Sirens), she extends this commitment to now take up the role of New Zealand Canoe Polo Executive Director while Maree Burnett takes a year's parental leave.

With strong ties to Nelson, Rosemary did her nursing training at Christchurch hospital and has subsequently lived in the Hawkes Bay and Wellington. Even though Rosemary and family have been North Islanders for some time (moving from the Hawkes Bay to Wellington three years ago) she still considers herself a Mainlander through and through!

An extensive work history in intensive-care nursing, combined with involvement in canoe polo on a number of levels, including participation in the Wellington Schools Canoe Polo Association, providing support with the 2002 Secondary School National Champs, assisting Wellington national league squad fundraising, and being the inevitable 'camp mother' at school tournaments, national league and central region training camps, means that Rosemary is well accustomed to juggling a zillion priorities at once. Not to mention the all important role as enduring vocal sideline supporter!
