| MaineWoods Cockers is fairly new...it all started not too long ago with our first Cocker, Phoebe. From there we have begun to grow... We are located in Oxford, Maine, but will soon be moving to our new home in Sumner, Maine. Steve and I purchased 77 acres of wooded land there last summer, hence the name Mainewoods. My philosophy about breeding my dogs is simple...I do it to make better dogs. My plan is to raise a line of quality, healthy, temperamentally sound Cockers who will return to the heritage of the Cocker and be excellent gundogs. These dogs will be family fidos and man's best friend alike. Because I will only be using the highest quality foundation stock, I will undoubtedly produce nice show quality dogs and bitches as well. My dogs are raised in a loving home environment with my 3 children, my cat, and my horses. They are intelligent, well behaved, and 100% temperamentally sound because I will accept nothing less from them. The first thing I sought out in choosing pups is ones who could be trusted to withstand the rigors of being the friends of young children, which as you know, is trying for most adults at times...let alone dogs who get picked up funny, made to eat pickles, and dressed up for tea parties. All MaineWoods dogs will have eye and hip clearances as they are ready and each one comes from multi-Champion bloodlines. My pups will be sold guaranteed against specific genetic defects and disorders as well as temperament. Unless going to show homes, all pups will be sold with a spay/neuter agreement. At this point, I will not be expecting any litters for at least a year and a half. This may be longer depending on whether I send the girls out to show. It also may be shorter depending on whether I add any older dogs to our household. If you are looking for a pup, however, I can put you in touch with several reputable breeders. Let me know what you are looking for, and we can probably put you in touch with it! My focus at this point is parti-colors. I will be breeding chocolates and tris. I do plan, however to add a chocolate ASCOB to our family, so I will eventually have those as well. I am not planning on offering buffs or blacks at this time...however, like the weather in Maine...that may change sooner than you think! Please feel free to browse the site, e-mail me, or post messages in my guestbook. I will be adding more to the site frequently, so do check back from time to time. I also welcome any questions about our dogs, dogs in general, training issues, Cocker Spaniels, Maine, horses, and anything related to what you find on our site! Have a hot cup of something, and enjoy your stay with me in the MaineWoods... |
