This release of Main Event 2.2 (programmed and compiled in Quickbasic 4.5) is basically a very complete beta, and below is a brief treatment of the sim itself. This will be the last QB version of Main Event. __________________________________________________________
INSTALLING THE GAME
__________________________________________________________
Double click the mnevnt22.exe file to bring up a dialog box, telling you where the program plans to install itself (the default install folder is C:\ME22). If you're not too familiar with computers, winzip and folders, just accept this default location by clicking the "UNZIP" button - otherwise, you may change it and have Main Event 2.2 install itself wherever you please. Make sure ALL of Main Event 2.2's component files are present in this same location - the program WILL NOT work correctly if there are files missing.

STARTING THE GAME

Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, open the directory that you installed Main Event 2.2 into and double click the me22.exe file to start the game.

CHOOSING THE PLAY MODE
__________________________________________________________
The first screen will be the Player Mode menu, which will allow you to choose either: 
(0) computer only demo, completely randomly "simmed" CPU vs. CPU match
(1) one player, against the computer
(2) two player, head-to-head

CHOOSING THE WRESTLERS
__________________________________________________________
Once you have chosen your Mode, you will choose both wrestlers. Only the standard one-on-one match is included in this release of Main Event 2.2. Each wrestler actually has a set of attributes unique to them that affect how skillful and tough they are and how easily they shake off being stunned. 

Wrestlers are chosen by pressing letter and/or number keys corrosponding to the wrestlers listed next to each key. Note that the [R] and [U] keys are special and are described below:

Selecting the [R] key option will force the computer to randomly pick one of the listed wrestlers, and the [U] option will allow you to create a wrestler on-the-spot, to compete in the match (the wrestler WILL NOT, however, be saved).

UNDERSTANDING THE SCREEN
__________________________________________________________
Once you have chosen your wrestlers, pressing a key (as instructed on screen) will begin the match. You will see that the screen is divided into (3) three main sections: 

1 & 2: the two Wrestler StatBoxes (red and blue) display current information on the wrestlers. The first line of the StatBox has the wrestler's name. The second line contains a long line of blank spaces, which turn orange as the wrestler has moves performed on him, increasing his Fatigue. This is the Fatigue Meter, and to the right of it is the actual numerical Fatigue Rating (from 1 to 100). The larger this number is, the more apt a wrestler is to being Down or Laid-Out, and in turn, the easier he is to use a Finisher on and the easier he is to pin. Under that, to the right of the word "Maneuvers" (which is the heading for the moves listed further toward the bottom of the StatBox) is the Status of the wrestler, in white. It starts out as "Ready" and can go all the way to "Laid Out". Depending on the status of a wrestler, his opponent's available moves will change, allowing for more powerful maneuvers, of which the really powerful ones are capitalized and are often the names of Finishers. Ultimately, the only way to win a match is to either use a Finisher on your opponent, which usually allows you to go for a pin, or select 'pin attempt' from your maneuver list when your opponent has really high Fatigue.

3: the Color Commentary (Play-by-Play) section of the screen (below the StatBoxes) displays a printout of all the action.

PLAYING THE GAME

The game is played by highlighting a maneuver from your wrestler's maneuver list and selecting it (also known as 'locking it in').  

In one and two player modes (1) and (2), you will use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight band up and down your maneuver list, and select the currently highlighted maneuver you want to attempt by pressing the [ENTER] key. 

For two player games, the second player uses the [W] and [S] keys to move his highlight band up and down his maneuver list and the [TAB] key to select the currently highlighted maneuver. The game WILL NOT proceed until BOTH players have chosen their moves - the computer sometimes will take its sweet time deciding between moves, and will move the selector band up and down frantically - usually this only lasts for a short while and eventually it will make a decision. Note that until a wrestler's maneuver is chosen, his opponent may change his own attempted move, even if he already 'locked it in' - you can use your selector band and 'lock-in' keys as much as you want until your opponent decides on his move.

Once both wrestlers have locked in their moves, the program determines which wrestler will attempt a move and if he is successful. The commentary will be displayed below the wrestlers' red and blue StatBoxes in the 'COLOR COMMENTARY' section of the screen.

COMMAND KEY SUMMARY

[W] = move selector band up
[S] = move selector band down
[TAB] = select ('lock-in') currently highlighted move

[up arrow key] = move selector band up
[down arrow key] = move selector band down
[ENTER] = select ('lock-in') currently highlighted move

NOTE: Sometimes during play, you may notice that a capitalized maneuver comes up on your maneuver list, but is actually one of your opponent's Favorite Moves or Finishers - this reflects the tendancy in pro wrestling to be able to learn your opponents' moves and also add insult to injury by using his own move against him - and while your version of your opponent's maneuvers won't be as powerful as his, they still pack a pretty good wallop.
