Muscovite is one of my favorite species. Oddly, muscovite and other micas are relatively scarce in well-shaped crystals. Here are several microscopic features seen growing on the side of mica books. The field of view is about 5 mm or less.
Muscovite (shelf-mushroom texture), Emmons Quarry, Greenwood, Maine
Typical "mica stacks" grown on the side of large mica books. This growth feature is common on micas formed in gem pockets of pegmatites. Pocket environment crystals frequently show a history of etching with regrowth on those minerals. Muscovite, Emmons Quarry, Greenwood
Crystal Edges sticking out of the sides of mica books.
