Victoria Falls

"Mosi-Oa-Tanya" the smoke that thunders!  Twice the size of Niagara Falls making this place one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls lived up to its reputation as bieng awe inspiring.  The largest waterfall in the world,  Victoria Falls is 3,500 feet long and plunges to a depth of 350 feet.  In the ever present mist, a lush rain forest is created and you get very wet walking the rim of the falls.   I walked the trail once each day and left Zimbabwe  with the image of the falls fresh on my mind.

Bridge to Zambia

From the Trail

From the falls, the trail leads to the bridge leading to Zambia.  No bungee jumpers today but plenty of monkeys to watch swinging under the bridge.

At this point the thunder of the falls is deafening and the constant mist creates rainbows on sunny days.

"Dr. Livingston I presume?"

Livingston, the famous explorer and missionary , was the first White man to see Victoria Falls in 1855.

We visited Victoria Falls on the last days of our stay in Zimbabwe.  We flew Air Zimbabwe from Hawange on a very lovely day.  Vic Falls is pretty much a tourist town catering to visitors to the falls.  Plenty to do and local sights.  Rafting down the Zambazi River, bungee jumping, helicopter flights over the falls, and plenty of shopping ......whatever your heart or budget will take!
