| The Andover Fair On Tuesday, October 13, 1885, Edmund Bailey exhibited apples, while Sadie Bailey exhibited house plants at the first Andover town fair (October 20, 1885, Oxford Democrat). Ed did not appear as an exhibitor at the 1886 Fair, although it may have been a case of selective reprting. At the 1887 Andover Fair, Ed returned (October 18, 1887, Oxford Democrat): "A case of 100 different minerals shown by E. M. Bailey attracted considerable notice ...", while his sister Lavinnia exhibited jelly. On Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1 at the Andover Fair, E. M. Bailey also exhibited beets and won a 25 cent premium. There was no Bailey report for 1888. Bailey resumed his exhibiting at the Andover Fair, Thursday and Friday, September 18-19, 1889: "A display of fine wood work of many patterns made by Wm. G. Cushman, attracted much attention, as did a collection of 125 specimens of minerals exhibited by E. M. Bailey." (October 8, 1889, Oxford Democrat). The continued social activity of the Bailey household was indicated (December 17, 1889, Oxford Democrat.): "The Congregational Ladies Circle met with Miss Lavinnia E. Bailey last Wednesday evening." |
