| Oxford County Mining Bicentennial | ||||||||
| The bicentennial of Oxford County will occur in 2005. In anticipation of this event, many activities are being planned. In May, 2004, the Maine Mineralogical Symposium will have a program which will particularly concern itself with mining at Mount Mica, in Paris, Oxford County, Maine. The author of this webpage and his co-authors have been researching Maine mining history for about 30% of the bicentennial time and they anticipate having books available which recount the details of Oxford County mining history. A special request is being made to people who have personal knowledge and family tales of Maine mining, to share their stories to enrich the historical record. Photos, diaries, letters, newspaper clippings, etc. are being sought which contain details to add to the history. Information is sought about the lives of many famous yesteryear mining personalities including: Hiram Francis Abbott Vivian Milner Akers (December 6, 1886 Norway - February 27, 1966, Norway) Eugene Andrews (~1876-1960+) Edgar D.
