| History: The Kalashnikov Ak-47 and variants were developed in the mid '50s in the Soviet Union. It was designed to take a great deal of abuse and still fire. It was also designed to be a cheap gut that was easy to mass produce. Once in production, it began poping up all over the world in communist countries and in the hands of rebel fighters and terrorists. When the USSR fell in the late '80s, the Russians created the smaller caliber AK-74, witch chambered a 5.56 mm NATO round. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Appearance: I ordered this gun from jungletoy, so it came with a gun bag, 8.4 volt 1300 MaH large type battery, charger, loading rod, barrel cleaner/dejammer, standard magazine, and of course the AK-47. This first thing that I noticed was the wieght and the sturdyness. This next thing that I noticed was the "wood" pistol grip, buttstock, and forward hand grips. They are not real wood, but Marui does a great job of replicating the real things. On furtyher inspection of the gun, I found that There is allot of metal on it. The only parts that were not metal were the "wooden" parts, and the lower reciever. The only thing that was a proble right off the bat was that the front sight assembly was a little bit loose. This can easily be fixed with an allen wrench. One other thing that I had a problem with was that there are two screws on the bottom side of the buttstock that fell out and gave it a kind of wobble. This was easily fixed by sticking some new screws in and making sure they stay tigh. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Preformance: The first thing that you need to fire is a battery. This is attached by sliding the buttplate down and conecting the bettery to the wires. When the battery is in, the gun has much better balance. The fire selector is located of the right hand side and you have to take your triger hand off of the handle to adjust it. This can be an annoyance to some people who are used to the H&K series and the M16 series. The first click is full auto, and the second is semi. Firing this thing for the first time was a pure joy. The trigger pull is fairly light, but long. The trigger delay is negligable and on full auto, it doesn't make a difference anyway. The EG700 motor cranks BB's out at around 700-800 RPM, not the fastest, but easily fixable with a higher voltage battery. The maximum range for this aeg is on par with all of Marui's other assault rifles. It can hit a CD at 100' about 70% of the time and can easily hit a torso sized target at 130'. The hop-up is found by yanking back the bolt. This reveals a lever that can easily be adjusted to fit the range that you are shooting at. When the bolt is released, it makes a satisfying "chink" sound of metal on metal. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Accesories: The first thing you must have is a High Capacity magazine. It holds a generous 600 rands and when fully wound, it will empty a third of that before being wound again. The next thing that is a nescesity is a sling. I didn't see paying 20$ for a 3-point, so I just took a strap off of a sports bag and that works just as well. In the future, I plan on getting a red dot scope, but right now I'm short on cash. If you are into customizing your gun to the extreme, you can buy a black fiberglass sett to replace the plastic "wood" or you could by a Smokey's full wood conversion for a mere 500$. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Conclusion: Overall, I think that the Ak is a great gun, weather you are an airsoft veteran, or a noobie, it can suit all positions and all players. Go For it. |
