| APPERANCE/FIRST IMPRESSION The tokyo Mauri G36c comes like almost all tm guns in a styrofoam case. It is packaged neatly and has a very nice black finish. It comes with a stock that folds to the side and 2 mounting surfaces (rails). In the picture to the left I have put a red dot scope on the upper rail and a vertical handgrip on the rail below the guns handgrip. They are 20mm weaver mounts so they can fit a wide variety of accesories such as lights, vertical grips, lasers grenade lunchers, ect... Lots of external as well as internal upgrade possibilities. The dummy rounds that are found in the standard low-cap magazines dummy rounds look real, but upon disassembly of the mag, you will find that they are only plastic shells.. All around it is a great looking gun, and the feel is something else. It feels like you are holding a real gun. In the pictures, you will probably notice a yellow grip. This is something I added and it did not come with the gun. BUILD QUALITY The g36 is built very solidly out of ABS like most other TM guns. The g36 sports an internal metal frame as well as a version 3 mechbox. The only flaw I have foud is the fire selector. The selector switch to change firing modes has very weak screws capable of snapping fairly easily. Since this is a newer model, the parts are not yet out to replace this peice, but in the future they can be expected. The mags are durable and mine have taken a fair amount of abuse. Sometimes the hicap mag double feeds a bb, but if you silicone it it and make it clean your all set. The magazines have knobs on them that allow them to be connected together very firmily and stay solid together. This gives the user the option to clamp two mags together without wasting money on an aftermarket clamp. This feature can be found on the real g36 as well. It is very convenient if you do not have or do not weant to wear a tactical vest with mag pouches. This brings me to our next point, the nobs are good for clmping the mags together, but the make the mag hard to fit into a conventional tactical vest. When pulling them out, they can sometimes get caught on the edges. This can be easily fixed by snapping the nobs off and sanding them smooth. PERFORMANCE The g36 has a version 3 mechbox just like an ak and despite the ak's longer barrel, they are almost identical in their firing range. It is great for long range and close qaurters alike, and it can be stored in a small area with the stock folded in for transportation. It has an eg1000 motor, so it does not have problems pulling back an upgraded spring. If you were to upgrade the spring, you could only go up to about an M100 or M110 without upgrading the other internals such as the gears, bushings, tappet plate etc. Like the AK, it functions well and is perfect for many situations in a small CQB/CQC environment, but it is fully capable of matching other larger rifles in a woodland area. It is quite a bit louder than the Ak 47, but that doesnt realy matter and silencers are available with foam inserts. This gun functions flawlessly. THE DOWN-SIDE The only problem I find with this gun other than the fire selector, is battery space. On the g36, the front foregrip slides off, and the battery is stored underneath. There is a fusebox containg a glass tube fuse that takes up some room, so space for a larger battery does not exist. There are custom batteries you can buy with slight modification to your gun, but the g36 usually used a 9.6v 600 MaH NiCd battery. The battery does not last as long as other guns, but if you use the standard 68 rd. mags and not the 470 rd high capacity mags, you should be fine. There are 1000 mah Nimh batteries on ebay that work great and last longer for 30$ and if you want more power it isnt hard to modify your gun, but the normal nicad battery is a 600 MaH. CONCLUSION The g36 is another great aeg from Tokyo Marui. It is built like a tank and looks great. If you like the looks, go for it, it is a great gun. For the vetran-another tool for any situation, and for the newbie-A dependable gun. Hope this helps someone make their choice for selection, -Chris |
