Hi, welcome to my website!  My name is Julius; but my friends know
me as 'Julie'.  I am a married gentleman residing in New Jersey.

I was born in the state of New York.  My wifes' name is Anne.  We have 3 children, the youngest is 40;  and also 5 grandchildren.  Annie and I have been married 56 years; and met as classmates at the young age of 13 in Seward High School on the lower side of Manhattan.  We were married at 20,and then I took a boat rid; but I came back.  Here we are. Tenement people all our lives, and living in the country ; getting acquainted with grass and flowers and kind neighbors our age.  Anne and I reside in a retirement community.  I was born and raised during the Depression period; so I am 'self-learned' about surviving in life.
I hope to pass my lifes' 'lessons' on to my children.

I worked as a Letter Carrier in Brooklyn for 32 years. On foot. No sissy vehicles.  We carried 50 pound sacks on our backs and we did a walking job in 0 degrees or 100. I had a route with the finest people
in the world as customers.  Mostly, their ancestors were Italian.
Being Jewish myself, we  made a perfect fit. I ate home cooked Italian
meals daily.   I cried when retirement time approached.

I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1994, which was one of my 'personal battles' in life. Chemotherapy began in January of 1995. It was done for 52 weeks, once a week.  I went back to the oncologist every 3 months for 4 and a half years and bloodwork was done at that time.  It wasn't a picnic; but about two months ago, he said, and I  quote,  "Get out of here for good. You're cured!"

We hugged him and left with tears and a smile.
He retired in June.

My wife Anne was a bookkeeper and we have managed to raise a doctor, an accountant, Elaine, and Sandy. He is a vice-president in a computer related field. Not bad. The families are Dr. Dan Elaine,Steve, and kids Andrew, and Jill.  Sandy, Zena, and kids Marissa, Alanna, and Jarett.  Dan is in Maryland. The others also live in our Garden State of New Jersey, as do we.  Anne loves Mah-jonggh and Canasta. I am a science fiction nut.  My computer, graciously given by all, has not only passed the chemo time with much less pain than anticipated, but I need a rehab clinic.  I'm a computer junkie!  Ahhh- the joys of 'retirement'!
*S*
That's 'ok' though; I love the internet and enjoy my time on it!
I'll always remember the days of the "Great Ones" like Benny Goodman, Harry James, Artie Shaw.   And the dances back then?!?
Whoaa!!...
You should have seen us jitterbug!!

As the old saying goes:
"Those were the DAYS!"

At this time of our lives-Anne and I are very content.  We remember small incidents from 60 years ago.  What did I just have for dinner.  Don't ask me.  Coolidge was President when Anne and I were born.  As Jackie Gleason would put it, a mere 'bagashells'!

Life is good for both of us right now.

I consider my parents 'pioneers' in the sense they came a 'long way' to America.  My Father came here from Poland in 1903 as a young child.
Legally, I might add. He landed at Castle Garden in Lower Manhattan as Ellis Island had not been developed as yet.

My Mother landed at Ellis Island on Armistice Day, November 11th, 1920.  The very next day, and I mean that literally, her sister enrolled her at P.S. 4 on the lower East side of Manhattan,to learn English and how to become an American. That's where she met my father. By the way, she was born in Rumania. I could write a book. To get to America, she had to travel to Hamburg, Germany, to get on the ship. It took  a long walk and an occasional wagon ride, but she got there. She shipped out on a German boat, the Noordam, and I still have her passport as of today.  Some things in life you'll learn to 'treasure' forever.

She left port on the day war was declared in 1914.  About three days out,  a British submarine surfaced.  Since war in those days was "civilized", the sub signaled to the ship to get the passengers into lifeboats and the lifeboats were lowered and all got off. The sub sent a torpedo into the vessel, and she sank. A German ship eventually picked up the survivors and brought them back to Hamburg.  My mother retraced her steps back home and spent the next 4 years dodging the Kaiser on one side, and the Russians on the other. There is a great story here, but I still say, I could write a book.  My parents were married in 1922. They became American Citizens as soon as they could, and only spoke English at home. What a real start their kids got and my wife and I carried their ethics over to our children's side.  We have a great family heritage and I am proud to see it passed on to my children and my grandchildren!

Ann and I have truly had 'the house that love built'.
That is why we will keep on smiling-everyday.
