Many years ago, a lone fisherman witnessed a beautiful tennyo bathing in a stream. He hid her celestial robe, without which, she could not return to the heavens. He then tricked her into marrying him, eventually spawning the Mikage clan with their union. But Ceres' soul can never be at peace because she still wants her robe back, thus she's not going to stop tormenting the Mikages until she gets it. It's just Aya's luck that in her generation, she's the one who has inherited Ceres' legacy. On her 16th birthday, it has been discovered that Ceres has been ‘born?into Aya’s body, thus, the Mikage family set out to kill Aya as Ceres might eventually use Aya’s body to achieve her goals.

       After managing to escape from her family, Aya had to find the robe in order to pacify Ceres and get things back to the way they were. She was accepted into the home of Suzumi and Yuuhi Aogiri who had vowed to help Aya achieve her goal. Suzumi had even assigned Yuuhi to be Aya’s bodyguard in oreder to keep Aya safe from her foes. In the midst of all the challenges, Aya fell in love with Touya, an agent who’s working with the Mikage family. Aya’s twin brother, Aki, is also slowly being possessed by the spirit of the Mikage patriarch, Shiso.

Characters

        Aya Mikage - In the story, Aya starts off as an average Japanese high school student who enjoys shopping, chatting on the phone and visiting the karaoke. With a quick turn of events on her sixteenth birthday, her average life takes a turn for something that is anything but normal. She finds out that she is a descendant of a celestial being and that entity (Ceres, a tenniyo) is inside of her and on her sixteenth birthday, Ceres was awakened. With Ceres awakened and in Aya’s body, the whole of Mikage family started hunting down Aya in order to suppress Ceres. This forces Aya to run away from home if she were to survive. Aya struggles to understand Ceres and everything that is going on around her. She tries her hardest to re-unite herself with her twin brother, Aki. As though having an unnatural being inside of her is not hard enough for Aya, Aya also faces many problems such as the death of her parents and her C-Genome friends, finding Aki, and understanding first love. She finds herself hopelessly in love with Tooya. a man who is supposed to be her enemy. She was later taken in by Suzumi and Yuuhi into their household. Through their support, Aya manages to overcome many obstacles including bearing Tooya’s child.

        Ceres - Ceres is the ancestor of the Mikage family. She is a tenniyo, a sort of Heavenly maiden. She possesses great powers, but her powers are limited when she is separated from her 'hagaromo', some sort of a feathered cloak. Ceres claims that she was forced to marry Mikagami. At first glance, she may appear as a cold-blooded being, but she is actually just very confused after what has happened during the Mikagami incident. Also after that incident, she does not trust any human. Ceres will only come out of Aya when Aya is feeling agitated. Her objective for resurfacing in a Mikage family member every generation is to retrieve her hagaromo and to resolve the issue whether does the man she loves ever loved her. Her favourite catch phrase is “I’ll destroy all Mikage…”

        Aki Mikage ?Aki is Aya’s twin brother who enjoys expanding his CD collection and working on his computer. Like Aya, Aki also has an entity inside of him, Shiso Mikage, the Mikage that first stole hagaromo. After the twins was forced to separate due to their family’s actions, Aki have been trying hard to reunite with Aya. He wishes nothing more than to go back to their once simple life. Unlike Aya, Aki is kept under supervision and is constantly looked after for safety. They consider him to be the future of the Mikage and the most important part of the family. Kagome takes Aki in, feeding him many lies while he conducts his tests. Tooya becomes Aki's guard along with Wei, and Aki begins to trust him and looks for him to provide information about Aya's safety. Aki is tormented that the Progenitor is taunting him and sometimes can no longer control his consciousness. He unconsciously lusts for Ceres, and becomes jealous of Tooya and ends up threatening him to stay away from Aya. In the last battle Aki appears from within the Progenitor in order to save Aya. He is killed along with the Progenitor.

        Shiso Mikage - Shiso is the man who started it all. The man who Ceres is constantly after and wants nothing more than to destroy. In ancient times, Mikage was a gentle man from a small tribe. He sees Ceres, the beautiful tennyo bathing, and takes her hagaromo so that he can have her. He brings Ceres to his tribe and asks for her hand in marriage. They know only happiness and peace. After taking Ceres as his bride and receiving powers from her, Mikage is consumed by the desire to conquer. The fear that he might one day lose Ceres became the need to confide her. He claims that "love" is impotent against "power". He is reincarnated within Aki and continues to pursue Ceres. He does not understand the reason why Ceres, who had given him her power, rejects him. He still possessively loves her and wants her back. Only when Ceres purges him with her own hands can he finally rest in peace.

        Tooya - According to the manga, Tooya was created by the mana based on information surrounding life forms and from the men with whom Ceres had prior relations with. When Aya was a little girl, she has once met Tooya on an uninhabited island, and this meeting with Aya has left a deep impression on Tooya’s heart. Later on in Tokyo, Tooya manages to lose his memory. The only thing he remembered is the words Tooya and Mikage. Thus, he went to the Mikage family and was later hired by them. The main reason why Tooya works for the Mikages is because Kagome offered to bring back his memories. However, after meeting Aya, he wants nothing more than to live with Aya and to protect her, even if it means he has to betray his employers.

        Suzumi Aogiri - Suzumi is a very strong and independent woman who is a master and instructor of the traditional Japanese dance. She fell madly in love and married into the Aogiri family. She then became pregnant. A tragic car accident that occurred caused the death of her husband. At her husband's funeral Suzumi is so overwhelmed with sorrow that she has a miscarriage. After her series of misfortunes, Suzumi attempted suicide. Yuuhi, Suzumi's brother-in-law, stops Suzumi from killing herself and reminds her that she still has something left to live for, and about the promise she made to her husband (to take care of Yuuhi). Ever since then, Suzumi took charge of the Aogiri household. uzumi is also a celestial maiden. Her blood however, isn't that of Aya's. She has powers of telekinesis and other abilities. She being a celestial maiden, and who has experienced suffering of her own, takes Aya under her wing. She realizes the Mikage are out to kill Aya and wishes for nothing more than to protect her. Suzumi controls Yuuhi with a headband into which she infused her chi. She may sound ruthless to Yuuhi, but she cares about him deeply. The Mikages tried to capture Suzumi. They haunt her with memories of her past and tried to get her to stay there. However she manages to escape the trap. When the time comes and Aya wishes to be with Tooya instead of Suzumi, Suzumi offered warm words of encouragement and comfort, as if she were her own sister.

        Yuuhi Aogiri - Yuuhi is the child of Mr. Aogiri's mistress. His mother left him behind when he was still a child. His family does not acknowledge him with an exception for his older brother, Kazuma. After Kazuma's tragic death, Yuuhi continued to live with Suzumi as though they are real siblings. The two shares a genuine bond and are very close. But this does not cure the feelings of loneliness of not having a real family. Suzumi orders Yuuhi to protect Aya and forces him to wear a headband with the celestial seal embroidered into it. After being around Aya her tears stirred something in Yuuhi's heart, and he fell in love with her. He tries to compensate for his loneliness by openly confessing and talking about his love for Aya. He openly shows hostility toward Tooya, who approaches Aya with an ambiguous attitude. Yuuhi is confident that he should be the one to protect Aya. He tries desperately to win Aya over, but after Aya and Ceres helped him to reconcile with his family, and after he sees Aya and Tooya deeply in love, Yuuhi backs off for Aya's sake. After the battle, he is told that Tooya might not have long to live, and is entrusted with Aya's future and well being.
