The OAV begins with a boy named Keiichi who decides to order food one day and accidentally dials the Goddess hotline. To his surprise, First Class Goddess Belldandy appears and offers to grant him any wish. Keiichi immediately believes his sempai is playing a joke on him and off the top of his head wishes that a girl like Belldandy would be with him forever. After a brief consultation with the heavens, Belldandy tells him his wish has been granted. And thus begins the start of Keiichi’s new life.

Almost immediately, sempai returns, and seeing that Keiichi has broken the ‘No Girls Allowed’ rule of the dorm, tosses them out on to the street to find a new home. But as Belldandy is the Ultimate Girlfriend, she is quickly able to petition the powers that be to find them a new home in an old temple nearby. Yes, she cooks. She cleans. She has magical powers. She can heal. She can make the best of any situation. And she is perfectly content giving up her Goddess home to live with Keiichi. Life is perfect for Keiichi… until his sister, Megumi, shows up… and then Belldandy’s two sisters show up… and everyone lives together in the temple.

Keiichi deals with Megumi pretty well, especially when she offers him her stipend to get buy with. Belldandy’s older sister, Urd, however, is another matter. She immediately shows up and tactfully encourages Keiichi to make a move on Belldandy… something he’s not at all comfortable doing because, well, he’s never had a girlfriend before. And of course someone or something always seems to get in the way. Not long afterwards, Belldandy’s jealous little sister, Skuld, appears and tries to break the two up so Belldandy will be able to return home. That's how this whole fiasco started. The sisters moving in, the bad guys attacking and lots of jealousy and love blossomed around. All the good things that make ‘Ah! My Goddess!’ such a wonderful work of art.

Characters

Belldandy - Belldandy is the first (and, in my opinion, the best) Goddess that we meet. Her personality is sweet, caring, and understanding. Her forehead bears a marking of a diamond, which is her means of communication with Heaven, at least as a way of granting wishes. In the manga, and parts of the OAV she calls Heaven on the phone. She has two sisters (well, one half- sister and a sister), Urd and Skuld. They are introduced in OAV's 2 and 3, respectively. Two of her favorite things (besides Keiichi) are Darjeeling Tea and "Prince of Wales" brand chocolate. Belldandy first meets Keiichi when he tries to call for take-out, but accidentally calls the Helper Goddess Office. She visits him and grants him one wish. His wish is for a goddess like her to stay with him forever. She misinterprets this as meaning for her to stay there with him. According to the OAV, he asks specifically for her to stay there with him. Go with whichever version suits you better.

Keiichi - Keiichi made an accidental call to the Goddess Relief Office and was granted one wish: that the goddess Belldandy may stay with him forever. He loves engineering, racing or anything with a motor attached. He often rides his trusty BMW motorcycle with Belldandy usually riding along with him in the sidecar. He can't swim and is totally in love with Belldandy.

Urd - Urd is Belldandy's half-sister, and she's the second Helper Goddess Office goddess we meet. In the manga, she is introduced in volume 2, and in anime, she makes her appearance in episode 2. Her teleportation medium and her link to the heaven is through TV sets. Urd has tanned skin and flowing, slightly curled white hair. She has green eyes, and bears the goddess markings. Her marking look like an upside-down triangle. She is the Yggdrasil system maintainer, also the series' love goddess. Urd is very good with magic potions, and her room is mostly filled with them. She also has a special passion for sake along with singing. Her name comes from the Norse fate named Urd.

Skuld - Skuld is the youngest of the three goddesses, and makes her first appearance in volume 5 of the manga, and episode 3 of the OVA series (Burning Hearts on the Road). She materializes out of the water in Keiichi's bathtub in the OVA, whereas in the manga, Urd is in the bath instead of Keiichi. Skuld has black hair and dark brown eyes. In addition to being the Yggdrasil system's debugger, Skuld is very good at building all sorts of mechanical inventions - most of them not functioning quite the way they should. One of her inventions is Banpei, the robot guard that does chores around the temple. Skuld is very fond of ice cream (131's Ice Cream being her favorite) and she dislikes useless mecha. Skuld's companion angel is Noble Scarlet and her name comes from the Norse fate Skuld.
