PETITION WITNESSES: THE CASE AGAINST FREDERICK CHILUBA

1. Sebastian Zulu:

Main points of his evidence:
_ That President Chiluba gave conflicting information about the birth place of his father. In 1970, Chiluba's father was listed as Jacob Titus Chiluba, born at Musangu's Village, Chief Lubunda in Mwense District. In 1996, Chiluba's father was listed as Jacob Titus Chiluba Nkonde, born at Lengwe Village in Kawambwa District.
_ That the electoral process was fraught with irregularities that favoured President Chiluba.

2. Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika:
Agenda for Zambia president.
Main points of his evidence:
_ That DNA tests should be used to prove President Chiluba's parents.
_ That President Chiluba's birth places are listed differently in two books by Zambian authors.

3. Luka Kafupi Chabala:
villager, 78,
Main points of his evidence:
_ That he is the father of President Chiluba, who he called Titus Mpundu.
_ That President Chiluba (alias Titus Mpundu) was born at Chibambo Mission in Zaire.

4. Thomas Ngosa, 62,
villager of Mwense district
Main points of his evidence:
_ That he was second cousin to President Chiluba.
_ That Kafupi was chased from the village because he was short and poor.
_ That President Chiluba was expelled from school for smoking dagga.

5. Chipulu Musunga:
childhood friend of President Chiluba
Main points of his evidence:
_ That he knew President Chiluba as Titus Mpundu.
_ That he came to know of Frederick Chiluba names when Titus Mpundu was at ZCTU.

6. Mark Chilekwa:
childhood friend of Titus Mpundu
Main points of his testimony
_ That he knew President Chiluba as Titus Mpundu Jim Zharare Nkhonde in Wusakile.
_ That President Chiluba's father was Jim Zharare Nkhonde, herbalist who came from Mozambique.

7. Jennifer Phiri
Liberal Progressive Front member
Main point of her evidence:
_ That President Chiluba should tell the nation the truth about his heritage.

8. Evaristo Junga Kambaila.
Mining Engineer, National Congress president.
Main points of his evidence:
_ That he checked ZCCM records for Jacob Nkonde Chiluba or Jim Nkonde Chiluba and found none.
_ That he boycotted elections because of violence and unexplained deaths.

9. Basil Robam Kabwe
UNIP administrative secretary
Main points of his evidence:
_ That he never met Titus Mpundu during the childhood, although both lived in Wusakile.
_ That he only came to know Frederick Chiluba in the 60s when they met as union leaders.
_ That the mine hospitals were equipped adequately to handle a caesarean section birth.

10. Dr Sketchley Sacika
Industrial relations consultant.
Main points of his evidence:
_That he was born in Kitwe at Wusakile Mine Hospital in 1939.
_ That he did not know Titus Mpundu in Wusakile during his childhood.
_ That he later came to know Titus Mpundu when he hanged around Lemmy Chipili, the lion of Kitwe.
- That when he later meet Titus Mpundu, he had changed his name to Frederick Chiluba.

11. Charles Kanyangu Simfute

Main points of his evidence:
_ That there was no record of Frederick Titus Jacob Chiluba at National Registry.
_ That the only names appearing there are Frederick Jacob Chiluba.

12. Bartholomew Sikongwa Tilase

Main points of his evidence
_ That President Chiluba changed particulars of his name and his parents on each of the four occasions he applied for a passport.
* In 1970 he applied under Frederick Jacob Chiluba and named his father as Jacob Titus Chiluba, born at Musangu's Village, Chief Lubunda in Mwense District.
* In 1975 he applied under Frederick Chiluba
* In 1977 he applied under Frederick Jacob Chiluba
* In 1991 he applied under Frederick Titus Jacob Chiluba and later changed to Frederick Jacob Titus Chiluba
_ That in 1996 in the nomination papers, President Chiluba's father was listed as Jacob Titus Chiluba Nkonde, born at Lengwe Village in Kawambwa District.
_ That it was not possible to a person to be born in two different places.

13. David Kasuba
peasant coffee grower.
Main points of his evidence:
_ That he conducted research on President' Chiluba's background.
_ That he was threatened against researching Chiluba's background.
_ That the constitutional amendment denied him a chance to run for president.
