GLACIER: Mach II

1982-1983

GLACIER Mach II:

  • Scott Prinzing (Vocals/Bass)

  • Sam Easley (Guitar)

  • Loren "The Master" Bates (Drums)

  • Pat Goebel (Guitar/Vocals)

GLACIER Mach II was the line-up that gigged the most around Portland. With new drummer Loren "The Master" Bates (replacing Pat Goebel), and new lead guitarist Pat "Patrico" Goebel (replacing Dave "Scruff" Nolan), they were armed & ready to take on the PDX metal scene!

They played a few times each at the Orange Peel, Clinton Street Theatre & Lung Fung's Dragon Room. They opened a few times for Wild Dogs (PDX's greatest metal band-featuring Deen Castronovo, who's played w/ everyone from Ozzy, Steve Vai, Bad English, Hardline, Paul Rogers, Tony MacAlpine, Cacaphony, etc. and now Journey!). They introduced their new line-up at a big bash at the Filipino-American Hall. This was not only the first gig with Loren, but Pat's debut on guitar. This was a self-promoted gig, with the band printing their own tickets, renting the PA, lights & the services of our sound/lights guy, Tim Kasey (guitar/vocals w/ Crysys).

By this time they had quite a few originals ("Different Eyes," "Show Your Mettle" and "Sword Of Truth."), but still played about half covers. After a year of grueling tours (PDX clubs) & recording (cassette), the big blow came when Scott decided to leave music for education. He covertly had talked to Mayhem's Timm Proctor about replacing him, so a new chapter began, but that's another story... While away at school, Scott fronted several other bands, including Portland's all-wave Boanerges, international reggae band Ya Mon!, Rush tribute band Signals, and Twin Cities power trio Wedlock.

Scott's final gig with GLACIER was at Lung Fung's. It was one of their best. At Scott's next birthday, a few fans presented him with a "GLACIER Rocked" birthday cake! And while he really appreciated their sentiment, GLACIER continues to be one of his all-time favorite bands! He recently was in Portland for pizza & planning as 3/4 of Mach II.

GLACIER Mach II is considered by many to be the quintessential line-up (but it seems like everyone has their own favorite!).
