| BOYCOTT WATERTOWN |
| The idea that Watertown was built and then came the surrounding farms is a myth. It was the surrounding farms that began Watertown and helped to build it to what it is today. The exact figure that each surrounding farm family actually contributes to Watertown's economy escapes us at the moment, but suffice it to say that it is on the average a substancial sum for the city to even operate. If the farmers and opponents of the Mahoney Creek Dam believe that Watertown is wrong in trying to place this structure where it is not wanted and have voted to build it anyway ~ how do we begin to fight back? ~ BOYCOTT WATERTOWN BUSINESSES ~ We begin by boycotting area businesses and taking the majority of our money elsewhere or to select businesses that support our cause. How do we know who does or does not support our cause and exactly which businesses to boycott? Where do we go to get the things/services we need? We hope this page will be your guide. We started with the Mahoney Creek Dam Petition that was circulated to bring forth the vote to build the dam. As this list is public record, we retyped all the names found on the petitions of the proponents for the dam to eliminate publishing their signatures. We understand that just because you wished to bring the issue to a vote does not necessarily reflect whether you actually voted in favor of the dam. But you must understand that your signature on the petition is a clear indication that you endorse the city's point of view to force a vote on people who have no vote to construct a dam. Some of the people listed own businesses, boycott their business. Some of the people listed work for businesses that do not suppport the dam, refuse to use their services. Some of the businesses believe that the Lake Pelican Project Water District have a viable plan, not only for the City of Watertown but the entire watershed, and support our cause ~ we encourage you to patronize their businesses and utilize their services and have provided a list of those businesses. Some people have donated valuable man hours, supplies or monetary donations in support of our cause and a way to recognize and honor those individuals is to provide their names in a special list. The end purpose of this boycott is to bring pressure on the City of Watertown and dam proponents to understand that it takes a community as a whole to solve the problems of the whole. |
