George and his brother Nathaniel Brown BECKWITH graduated from Yale in 1766. George was clerically ordained. He was one of “the forty” in Wyoming valley, later at Morris (then called “Litchfield South Farms”) where he was dismissed from his pulpit in 1790, removed to Lisle, Broome Co. NY.

His death probably occurred after 28 Dec 1812 when he deeded land to Abner BECKWITH, but before 19 Nov 1816 (inventory of his estate) and 4 Dec 1816 when one warranty deed and two administrator’s deeds were signed from Estate of George BECKWITH to John BECKWITH.

Looking at census extractions for 1810, I find in Burlington, Hartford Co. CT several names that could be those sons of George: Abner, John, and Joel. I am tentatively placing them in this family. However, they may belong elsewhere. Order of children listed below is the same as the order in the estate distribution abstract dated 19 Nov 1816.

Burlington Land Records Index gives tentative confirmation of the relationship of Abner to John and Joel. Abner makes transactions with John in 1822 and 1827, and with Joel three times in 1818. Several records are for John to Abner, John to Joel, Joel to John, and Joel to Abner. Several are warranty deeds followed by mortgages. Furthermore, George leased or sold land to Joel, John and Abner. These are the only BECKWITHs to whom George granted land.

Jebez/Jabesh and family moved from Charlotte, Delaware Co. NY to Potter Co. PA in the autumn of 1812. He took sick near the end of the trip and died a week later.

In Rush Co. IN 1830 is a Fosdick BECKWITH born 1790-1800. Is this their son? Fosdick is in OH in 1820 along with an Ezekiel! Could they be children of Ezekiel, or possibly Ezekiel III and son Fosdick??

I am going out on a limb here and putting Ezekiel of Clermont Co. OH in 1820 as a son, and Fosdick as a grandson.

According to his pension papers [W25234], Seth did duty as a militiaman in the town of New London CT in Oct 1778 in the Company of Capt. Jaber BEBEE. He was drafted for six months into the service of Capt. Thompson’s Company and was discharged in Apr 1779. In July 1779 he was again drafted, this time for four months service, into Capt. Watt’s Company. Again in July 1780 he was drafted and served for more 20 or 30 days in Capt. Clay’s Company.

Timothy enlisted May 1877 in Capt. William Richard’s Company, 1st CT Regiment of the CT Line under Col. Jedediah Huntington. He served as a private until the end of the war (Spring 1783). He was discharged at West Point and returned to Waterford where he lived until his death.

According to his pension file, there were two children Newberry BECKWITH and Desire (BECKWITH) BEEBE. I do not know where they fit in the list of children below.

Could this be Richard BECKWITH of Elmira, Tioga Co. NY 1820 & 1830 (kids in Elmira, Chemung Co. NY 1840 & 1850). The 1820 census indicates 11 children (110301-32111-0100), the 1830 also (11111001-022201). If this is the same Richard BECKWITH, his two unnamed siblings may be the Daniel BECKWITH (1820: 210001-32101-0100; and 1830: 002100001-01120001; and 1840: 000120001-101110001) and Henry BECKWITH (1820: 310001-21110-0100; and 1830: 0021101-0130001; and 1840: 010020001-000200001).

Virgil Huntley places “Shaler of Lunenburg, Essex Co. VT”. Shailer bought land in Antwerp, Jefferson Co. NY in 1812.

IL to Amelia “Milly” -----STROTHER WALDROP. She was born c1805 OH, died 22 Mar 1874 age 69.

Amelia married 1st Pendleton STROTHER. Children were Jane S. (c1835 IL) and John N.She married 2nd Francis WALDROP. Children were Susanna F. (c1838 IL) Alexander N. (c1840 IL). Amelia is buried in Old Robinson Cemetery, Robinson Twp. IL next to son John N., son of P.&A. STROTHER.

Benjamin and Amelia were divorced Nov 1869. She had deserted him ca 15 Apr 1865.

Benjamin was in Capt. Jenkins’ 5th Regt. NY Dragoons and Capt. C.V. Boughton’s Cos of NY Militia in 1813-14. He received a pension for this service.

Benjamin and Sally, and Silas and Anne (his parents), sold land in NY on 12 Mar 1816. Apparently this is when they moved to IL.
