On 23 May 1747 distribution of the estate of Joseph BECKWITH was signed for by Elijah SMITH and Elizabeth SMITH. On 26 May 1747 Elizabeth BECKWITH and Eunice BECKWITH signed for their part of the estate. It makes no sense that Elizabeth the daughter would sign for her part of the estate twice!

All the children were from Joseph’s first marriage.

The answer to whether Reynold’s first wife died in 1743 [1742] or 1790 seems to be answered a deed from Hebron CT [6:274] in which Reynold and Dorothy BECKWITH of Wallingford CT deed to Reuben Cumner of Hebron 30 acres “distributed to me out of my father’s, Stephen POST’s land, witnessed by Aaron and Susanna LYMAN. The deed is dated 26 Sept 1774, so Reynold was married to Dorothy before 1774.

In the probate it states (p186) that Jonah BECKWITH late of Lyme died in the West Indes.

probably son of John and Hannah, born c1733?. Married 12 June 1758 New London CT to Eliza TINKER, daughter of Jonathan [John or Jona] TINKER and Elizabeth MARVIN. She was born 17 Mar 1735 Lyme CT.

This is the first Timothy BECKWITH that I find among Mathew’s descendants. Therefore, I am assuming him to be the one of Waterford in 1790. If he is not, then all of this line belong to some other of Mathew’s descendants.

Both are buried in Alstead NH Cemetery. Married 3rd 26 Aug 1798 (int.) Alstead NH to Eunice HEBARD BINGHAM ROUNSEVEL, daughter of Samuel HEBARD and Lydia KINGSLEY. She was born 14 May 1745 Windham CT, died 26 Aug 1803 age 58. She had married 1st 10 Dec 1765 to Silas BINGHAM, son of Elijah and Theoda BINGHAM. He was born 3 Dec 1742 Windham CT, died 21 July 1787/8 Lempster NH. Eunice married 2nd 20 Apr 1790 (int.) to Joseph ROUNSEVEL. He was born 1737, died 1796.

Andrew moved to Alstead NH c1767. Beckwith Notes indicates 9 children.

Of Crawford Co. IL 1837? Married to Anna ATWELL. [Married 1st to Anna REEVES. Married 2nd to Anna -----.- this from Paul Beckwith’s book!?] She died c1830. Silas and Anna are buried in Little Beckwith Cemetery, Honey Creek Twp., Crawford Co. IL.

Silas was a 1st Lieut. in Capt. Andrew Lusk’s Company in the 2nd Berkshire Regt. He was commissioned 14 Feb 1780.

Most written work on this family give the maiden name of Silas’ second wife as Anna SMITH. However, she was the wife of John BECKWITH and mother of Silas BECKWITH of Big Flats NY. Mary ERICKSON gives name of wife as Anna ATWELL.
