Married 1716 to Elizabeth (BROCKENBROUGH) DICKERSON, daughter of William BROCKENBROUGH and Mary NEWMAN. She was the widow of Thomas DICKERSON who died 1714/15. Marmaduke BECKWITH was grandson of Sir Edmund JENNINGS and Margaret BARKHAM.

son of Sir Jonathan and Rebecca, born 175? or 1775 [1764 (DAR Index)], died 13 Nov 1835 Mount Airy, Richmond Co. VA. Married 2 Apr 1787 [marriage bond date] to Catherine MISKELL, daughter of William MISKELL and Elizabeth SAMFORD.

Sir Jennings BECKWITH was called the “Leather Stockings of the Northern Neck” as much of his life was spent wandering in the far West on hunting excursions with Indians. In his later years he lived with those men who would fish with him in the summer or fox hunt in the winter. His last year he lived and slept near the shore in the sturgeon season. He left descendants in Jefferson Co. VA.

The DAR Patriot Index identifies Jennings BECKWITH as a Capt. in the Revolutionary War from VA.

Another source (not recorded) from the internet says children include Jennings, Isaac and Edmond (Lunenberg Parish); Richad Marmaduke Barnes, Edwin, Malbis, J.W., James Pierson, Lurana, Winifred, and possibly a Barnes?

She is said to be buried in Beckwith Cemetery #2. In 1796 Marmaduke Brokenburrow BECKWITH of Loudon Co. VA sold 194 acres on Knobley Mountain to Moses BILL [Early Hampshire County Records, by Sage and Jones]. They moved to Wood Co. in 1812.

Lawrence BECKWITH served in Company G, Mounted Regt. of Arkansas Volunteers in the Mexican War. He enlisted 1 July 1846 at Washington AR and was mustered out 20 June 1847. His widow applied for a pension.

Sellers (1990 Penny Royal Ln., Wentzville MO 63385) in a letter dated 13 Nov 1995 states that her great grandmother was Ida Elmo BECKWITH (Dec 1899 Clinton KY) whose brother was named Thomas, and whose parents were Hardy BECKWITH and Nannie B. VINCENT. The names of wives do not match, but all other information jibes.
