EDDIE CHUA has the story Details Sunday Highlights: MAIL HIGHLIGHT No Second Wife For Me By Eddie Chua [email protected] Send to a friend | Printable Page JAMES Stanley Attew is a one-woman man although his wife says he can take a second wife. His wife, Penang Peoples Progressive Party Wanita chief Elizabeth Stanislaus, has been told to shut up for her comments condoning polygamy. Its unthinkable! Attew told the Sunday Mail in a phone interview from his home in Penang, following a newspaper report that quoted his wife as saying he could marry again. I cannot see myself with another woman even if my wife has allowed me to do so. I love her and I dont think I will find another woman as attractive as her. It was love at first sight. She has wonderful eyes. You will be enticed and get lost just by looking at her. He said the thought of having another wife never crossed his mind. Attew, then a divorcee, met Stanislaus while holidaying in Penang two years ago. They courted for seven months before tying the knot. The retiree from Britain, who declined to give his age, does not subscribe to polygamy, something his 29-year-old wife supports on grounds that it will get rid of the stigma attached to illegitimate children. The PPP State Wanita chief had angered many with her remarks that polygamy pose no problems and that people, especially those who criticised her should stop hiding in a dream world and wake up to reality. Im sure many women will agree with me that there is no problem in polygamy. The problem lies with the children of the mistress or second wife who will be labelled illegitimate. Following the furore her remarks have caused, the partys State chairman, Datuk J. Logabala Mohan, has advised her to stop talking on the issue. It is learnt that top PPP officials will meet on Saturday to discuss it. |
