Naatak Goes Mainstream ...........
It was never intended to be this way. After carving a niche for itself in the Indian theater scene in the bay area, Naatak took a bold step towards an unfamiliar territory in November of 98: Making a feature film. Could makers of plays be play makers on the silver screen ? The answer lay in "bugaboo" a quirky, but poignant tale of 3 indian professionals in the Silicon Valley which premiered in July 99. Bugaboo could be classified as a "genre" movie which immediately hit home with every indian who watched it . The success of bugaboo put Naatak instantaneously on the map of independent film makers. Most importantly it opened up the minds of the creators towards movie making. In summer of 2000, Sujit Saraf, actor/director/writer of "bugaboo" decided it was time for another adventure. This time , Naatak would aim at mainstream cinema : a thriller filled with murder and intrigue. Sounds rather familiar ?? Wait till you see it. Sujit brings his unique sense of story telling and quirkiness to the story and weaves a very interesting plot . The principal photgraphy is scheduled to start late october. It will be shot on locations in Los gatos and is expected to be released in spring of 2001. Stay tuned and watch this space for frequent updates and inside scoops on the movie which has been titled "Asphyxiating Uma."
