Singer, musician, songwriter

Matt singing at Christmas program in 2003.
GENERAL BACKGROUND INFO:   Born in Ellsworth, Maine, Matt grew up in Lubec, Maine (the easternmost point of the United States).  He attended school there until the summer between his sophomore and junior year of high school, when he changed school.  In 1993, Matt gradutated from Washington Academy, and attended Husson College.  While at Husson (from 1993 - 1995), Matt played both baseball and soccer.  After taking a year off from school, he entered Kennebec Valley Technical College, where in 1998 he earned an Associate's Degree in Business Management.  Immediately following his graduation he entered the United States Army, and was sent to Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri for basic training.  After training he headed to Monterey, California, and then to San Angelo, Texas, for follow-on training.  His first and only assignment was at Ft. Meade, Maryland.  He served his country for almost 5 years, before he was medically discharged from the Army.  He chose to stay in the area, and began working as a contractor for the US Department of Agriculture..
MUSICAL BACKGROUND INFO:

At age 5, Matt began taking piano lessons.  He continued those lessons for three years, before his family moved to Lubec, Maine.  He would play off and on, until taking more lessons when he got into high school.  While playing in the school band, in grammar school, he began playing the alto saxophone.   As he became more proficient with the alto sax, he started playing the baritone sax as well.  When he changed high schools, he played both alto and tenor sax for the school bands, and during his senior year, he began playing the soprano saxophone, including doing solos for the jazz band.

When stationed in Monterey, California, Matt was asked to sing in the Army choir for the post.  He ended up doing his first vocal solo performance at the Army Ball in June 1998.  He didn't sing again until he got stationed in Maryland.  He began attending church in South Baltimore, Maryland, where he performed with the church's music team, as well as performing many solos.

In October 2003, Matt began writing his own songs, without accompaniment at this point.  In the past 6 months, he has written more than 60 songs, two of which are in the process of getting music put to them.
