BELAIT DISTRICT

Belait is one of the most important districts in the sate of, because it is the centre of the oil and gas industries- the country’s main resources. Oil was first discovered in Seria in 1929, and commercial production began in 1932.

 

Wasai Wong Kadir

 

Wasai Wong Kadir is a 45-minute walk from the Labi road. It is ideal for those who enjoy or would like to try jungle, trekking up and down steep ridges. The Wasai or waterfall, is al popular picnic spot. The walk crosses several steep ridges enroute to the fall, but once there you can enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the jungle and the cool, pure water of the river. Because this is along walk, it is advised to take with you both drinking water and sun protection gear.

 

Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park

 

The Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park is an immense arboretum reserve. However, a part of the virgin jungle has been turned into a park with well marked nature trails. There are cool lakes where swimming is allowed.

 

A canopy walkway in the treetops allows for a different perspective of this largely mixed Dipterocarp jungle. The mammals found here include the plantain squirrel, pigtailed macaque, the Borneo gibbon, round leaf horseshoe bats and the flying lemur.

 

Luagan Lalak Recreational Park

 

About 25km away lies the famous Luagan Lalak Recreational Park, a 270-hectare site of lush, green hills. An alluvial freshwater swamp fills up during the rainy season but dries up to become a valley of swishing sedges in the dry season. The effect is striking and most people admire the scene by strolling along the 200m walkway that meanders along the lake.

 

Anduki Jubilee Recreational Park

 

The Anduki Jubilee Recreational Park is located about 80 km from Bandar Seri Begawan. It was opened by His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, in 1992, a contribution from Brunei Shell Petroleum to commemorate the Silver Jubilee. The park has general recreational facilities and an attractive lagoon of blue water. A very popular spot for families.

 

The Billionth Barrel Monument

 

Designed by a local architect for Brunei Shell Petroleum, this monument was built to commemorate the billionth barrel of oil produced by the Seria Oil Field. Situated near the seawell at the S1 site, the first well that was dug about 70 years ago, it features an arched entrance between two rows of trees and a tiled floor reflecting Brunei's Islamic beliefs to remind visitors of Brunei's Islamic faith.
