~General Notes~

The Color of Romance:  I wrote this in the Summer of 2000 in a week altogether, concept and actual composition included.  I've always thought (and have been told) that if I spent the time to rewrite it, it could be a masterpiece.  But I wrote it to tell the story of that part of my life...not for fame.  Based loosely on a combination of my own imagination and actual events of my life, I also composed it while listening to Lareine's "Fierte no Umi to Tomo ni Kieyu".   As you may well imagine from the sound of it, it is Japanese, with very little English except at the intro and end.  I try to pay homage to any sort of inspiration that leads to my poems, so I kept the intro from the album as the excerpt for my prologue, and the title of the entire set, "The Color of Romance".  It was my first poem story set, and my first poems to be received well.  After this, I knew I wanted to write poetry...and that I had the talent to try for it.

The Radiation Rider:   I wrote this about a month after "The Color of Romance".   It's astonishing how creative one can get just to escape boredom.  I spent very little time in my Accounting class paying attention.  (It was so boring, and I flunked, so everything was right with the world.)  So I had roughly two hours a night to amuse myself in ANY other way but studying the dreadful stuff.  I had begun to write poetry in general after "The Color of Romance", and I longed to try my hand at something similar, but just as challenging.  I had got together with a few other would-be poets, and we had been uselessly brainstorming on a way to collaborate our talents into one piecee for quite some time.  In Accounting, it hit me.  Science Fiction.  The future.  ANYONE could take creative license with that.  And I knew of no science fiction poetry.  Thus, the Radiation Rider was born, a product of high technology, an almost feudal anachronism, and an odd sight to see in a nuclear ravaged landscape, and yet somehow appropriate, given his mission..  Radiation Rider had such a nice ring to it too heh.  The idea was interesting, and vague enough to leave it all open ended, to be interpreted or added onto.  As a matter of fact, there is a certain amount of fan fiction out on the net based on my creation.  As far as poetry though, I was only ever able to find one poet to collaborate with me on the story.

Our Hearts In December: Although this very brief story set (which is really more like wishful thinking than a real story) is about December dreams, it was written in the Fall of 2000.  My girlfriend and I had been planning a vacation, she was to see me in December, and I felt the urge to write about the way I thought the vacation would be.

A Journey Without Destination: Another concept for a story poem set, I came up with the idea in early fall of 2001.  I've misplaced the notes...it very well may never be finished, or even rightly begun.   The poem "Home", which should be found in the 2001 set was intended for it.

Seasons:    Written in the late fall/early winter of 2000, I wrote these as both a gift to my girlfriend, and as an attempt to capture our love behind the backdrop of every season, as we had spent one of each together by now.  I like to think they each convey the season as well as romance

Darkness: What can I say?  I can't write sentimental mush all the time.  Sometimes, I just have to indulge my dark side.  These poems are reflections of my hate, sorrow, emptiness, and fantasies too heartless to my more sensitive side to withstand the light of day.  And yet, I value emotional honesty.  There can be no bright day, without a dark night.

1999-2000: My first clumsy attempts at poetry can be read here, they cover a variety of moods and styles that I was playing with at the time.  I didn't really settle on one until a year later, many of the poems were written just for me, and had little to do with, well, anything.  I wrote for the sake of writing.

2000-2001
:  This is when I truly developed a passion for poetry.  It took "The Colors of Romance" and the positive feedback from that for me to gain any confidence in my own writing once again, but after I had began, I simply couldn't shut it off again.  This was my most productive period, and many of the poems I wrote during it remain my favorites.  Many of the poems are, to me, like love letters in prose, that I wrote to my girlfriend, whom encouraged my writing, and I think to this day, if she had not, this page would not be here, would it?  The poems cover a variety of moods, I even have one or two humorous ones.

2001-2002
:  Things became rocky here.  Incredibly so, and for a variety of reasons.  If 2000 had been my golden year, then surely this one was made of copper...and green to boot.  My girlfriend and I began to have a number of problems, and this affected my writing.  There are quite a few sad pieces in here,  and there are a number of them I am simply not happy with.  Without my girl, my inspiration seemed to fade, and it felt as if I was merely writing so as to not lose the ability at times, instead of writing to express my feelings as I had before.

2002:
I've continued to write, but there are noticably fewer pieces .  Generally I have not been happy with these poems, but I will leave it up to the reader to decide whether they are worthy.  Hopefully I will reclaim my inspiration eventually, and till the end of this year, all new poems will be put here.
