| ~Ashes~ I remember when it all started The world was so green, brimming with living things People in the halls, in the malls, cars in the street The playgrounds full, and children on the swings It was our world The sky and sea were blue At night the lights reflected off the silver clouds The birds would sing, and young lovers danced Oh, now it's a memory to me, the sound of those crowds But behind it all, our peace was losing ground! The world leaders couldn't let it be, they were too proud. I may have been far away, but I heard the terrible sound! When the lives of millions ended in a mushroom cloud After that is was only a matter of time The missiles launched, the bombs fell, until everything was dead Civilization reduced to dust, at the whims of the few The silent screams, the pale lifeless eyes staring ahead Oh, I and a few, we raced for shelter in the blare of alarms! We needed safety, before the missiles crashed! I saw children, as parents shielded them futilely in their arms! They flew apart like leaves as the explosion flashed Oh it's ashes in the wind The sky a sickly green A final sign, we are losing! Everyone I knew has moved on And our world is gone But was it our choosing? We were victims, of the political games of lesser men! Now they're all gone, no one left to elect! Death is just a question now, of how and when! The world is dead, and it's something we can never resurrect Oh it's ashes in the wind The sky a sickly green A final sign, we are losing! Everyone I knew has moved on And our world is gone But was it our choosing? |
