Falcon Ridge 2001 - the adventures of Tarp Girl!

Thursday waved to Susan Moss (with relief at recognizing someone) as Christine tried to get her tiny car up the hill. Found room for my army surplus-spaceship tent in the heart of Camp Dar Camp, borrowed tent stakes, set up tent with generous help from many, found my tent stakes, hugged Sally and handed her my hatchet (what was I thinking?). Hugs from Sharong and others surprised that so many remembered me. Squeezed into Sharon Girlocks car for diner trip vegetarian food consists of grilled cheese or lettuce and tomato sandwich, vegan food is broccoli or French fries. So much laughter. With Sally and Jennifer, started to think Id wandered onto the xena list.  Song circle in the bitter cold Iowa, originals, and When the Revolution Comes there wont be any men left. Arjunas song inspired me to perform Unrenounced and the Christian right became an underlying theme for the evening. When I finished I sat down and there was clapping, then silence.  Such thoughtful acceptance.

Friday coffee with a gang of early risers, breakfast with free radical Jeff who talked about the mob in Noho. Yoga on the hill was amusing.  Knitted and talked under Candys canopy.  Chilled under Christines tarp and talked about first kisses. Wandered around, brought see-through dress, stayed at new artist showcase until I couldnt stand the sun. Tried to dance with Fred at beginners swing workshop, but we got stuck with rythem-impaired partners. I got in one good dance with Jesus, who was really named Gideon. Danced like crazy to the paperboys. Falling, yes I am falling, and she keeps calling me back again.  1st solar shower of the weekend and the grass wasnt even muddy yet. Mesmerized by song swap. Dave Carter sang Goddess songs.  Gail starts greeting me as the girl with cool hair and plays with it constantly. Song circle was warmer leaning on Suzi and eating too much sugar (Libbys Monster Cookies).  Went to sleep hearing Free Bird beautiful.

Saturday Crazy tarp run with crabby security people and litter pick up. Loved Most wanted artists Danced to Beth Amsel who wants to be in touch and is proud of me! Waiting in line to talk to her a stranger gave me a copy of 66 Hoxsey St! Erin rocked did contact improv in my dress. (Sally teased me about being girly till I demonstrated my kick) Rainbow around the sun appears. Lucy was incredible, then I went back to camp for a ice run, waving hi to Chris Erikson who was sitting under the tarp with Jen without actually meeting him. We figured it out Mon. night.  Sat next to Cait for evening  sets, learned to say turtle in ASL. Hippy dancing to the Nields and EFO with Michelle, Sparky, Sarah and Christine and other friends. Overcome by singing along to Iowa surrounded by so many family each light on that hill was the light of our burst through the screen door of discretion. After all and Spring St were beautiful. Then ran around hugging friends from home and Suzi. Dar just makes me need to hug people. Song circle left early in anticipation of land rush.

Sunday Another sucessful tarp run! Cant believe its the last day  - it seems like Ive been here forever, like a week at least has passed. Great stuff at the workshop stage, then chilling under the tarp and packing. Sallys ferret got shaved, other weirdness ensued. A highlight was Vances set when he had the whole hillside sign the chorus during a sing-along. Many people left before I could say goodbye. Long ride home therapy and ice cream with Sarah and Christine.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about or want to join the fun next year, check out the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Most of the crazy people featured here belong to the Dar List! Learn more about Dar Williams, Beth Amsel, and the Nields!
