LABS:    Laboratory time will be set aside throughout the course. The labs are selected from various sources to coincide with topics covered in class.  You will be required to produce a full laboratory report for a couple of the laboratory experiments. The lab report format will be explained in class and is available on the class website. All formal lab reports must be typed.  You are encouraged to discuss your findings with each other, but the lab report must be your own work. You must follow all laboratory safety rules and will read, sign and have parents/guardians sign the Flinn Laboratory Safety contract. You will not be allowed to work in the laboratory unless the contract has the required signatures. Approved laboratory goggles must be worn for all laboratories.  Goggles will be provided. Late work will not be accepted after 3 days have passed since the due date.  10% of the points possible will be deducted from the lab grade for each day late.  For each day that has an excused absence, the student will receive an extra day to turn in work with no penalty (this only applies to the day a lab is due or the 3 days after a lab is due).

HOMEWORK:      Homework will be assigned every night and will be clearly posted in class and on the class website.  Students are expected to take notes on the topics discussed in class and will, each night, study those notes as part of your homework assignment. Homework will be checked randomly over the course and awarded 1 to 5 points for each assignment. No credit will be given for homework that is not completed at the time it is checked by the teacher. Late homework will be accepted for half credit provided that it is passed in before the material is tested or evaluated.

GRADING:

a.             Exams and quizzes count for 2/3 of the total grade. Exams will be announced in advance.  Quizzes may or may not be announced.  Full credit will only be given if the equation and all of the work is clearly shown.  All answers must include the appropriate of significant figures and units for full credit to be earned.

b.             Labs and homework count for 1/3 of the total grade.

c.             Projects will be added into either the quiz/test or lab/homework grade depending on the project.

d.             A Midterm Exam will be given on July 22, 2005 and Final Exam will be given on August 12, 2005. They will each count as two test grades.

e.             Class participation may raise or lower your grade up to five points.

                                (This includes class attendance.)

                f.              Copying or cheating will automatically result in a zero.

EXTRA HELP:      By appointment before or after school.

CALCULATORS:  Calculators may be used on all tests and quizzes.  Calculators may not be shared.  No programmable calculators will be allowed.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:            You should maintain a portfolio containing all homework assignments, quizzes, tests, laboratory reports, and any other assignments for reference. Save all of your work in the event that there is a question or problem with a particular grade.
