Villaruel Updates
Dr. Alfredo Villaruel, Sr (Pappy) and Josefa Pena-Montilla have both passed away in the 1980's leaving behind their children.
Alfredo P. Villaruel, Jr (Nonong) married Concepcion Linco. They have one son, Alfred Vincent (Alvin) but they helped raise the children of Connie's older sister, Nening Minda: Buboy, Allan and Anne. They live in Manila with Connie's mother, Nanay Conching, and youngest brother, Aging. Their only son Alvin is now a professional artist and has a live-in girlfriend, Mary Grace Suede who also hails from Bacolod.
News Flash!!! Nonong passed away last Wednesday, October 5th at 10:45 pm. He battled cancer since early 2002 and was told that he only had about over a year to live. He proved the doctors wrong by being a fighter. He died in his sleep, peaceful and happy in the knowledge that his family, Connie, Alvin and all those he had helped particularly Anne and her siblings, have had a chance to see him and be with him one last time. I'd like to remember Dagda in his white sando and shorts, happily tending a plot of garden - he was such a green thumb and knew the riches of the land. May his soul rest in peace.

Antonio Villaruel married Rose. He sired two sons from his previous liaisons: James who is now married with children, and Borgy who lives in Bacolod. With Rose, his children are all boys as well namely: LA, Joseph, Donnie and Anton.
Marilou Villaruel married Eddie Itaas. They didn't have children of their own but raised two, a son (Francis) and a daughter (Christine), as their own. They now live in Bacolod.
Lola Adelaida P. Vargas passed away in the early 1990s. She is survived by her only son, Archie Lacson and his family. Archie married Inday who remains in a coma to this day. Their children are all grown up and married, namely: Luigi, Enrico and Happy.
Old Tales
The first Villaruel (Alejandro Villaruel) to come from Spain lived in Pandacan, Manila where they were successful coal merchants. Faustino Villaruel was one of the founders of many Mason lodges in the Philippines. He was also a patriot in league with Rizal, and many other ilustrados of that time. For his part in the revolt against Spain, he and 12 others were shot to death in Bagumbayan in January 1899. His two children, Isidro and Rosario were masons like him. Isidro hid in Bacolod where he married into the Luzzuriaga-Pena-Montilla clan.
Pappy and Josefa got separated and Pappy went to the US to live with his second family. Near his death, he returned to Josefa and asked for her forgiveness. He died in Bacolod. Josefa cared for him until his last dying breath.
Nonong and Connie eloped to Manila. Connie's family doesn't like Nonong because he is much older than Connie and that he could be married. Nonong's family didn't like Connie as she came from a poor family. To escape it all, they went to Manila to work and study. They got married during one of the biggest typhoons to hit Manila in August 18, 1974.
