A Little About Me
Yes, it is true. I am hopelessly addicted to plastic horsies. I am not sure the exact date when I knew that I would be in love with horses for the rest of my life, but I know that it was a long time ago :-) Anyhow, my very first model horses were a couple of older Breyers given to me by my mother. Those mares really got into so much trouble and even liked to fight with their rivals, the Barbie (TM) horses. I still have one of them, a palomino FAF that has had her share of ups and downs. I will be thirty this year (2005) and she still stands on the shelves with the rest of the herd. The matching stallion, which I found at
Breyerfest a few years ago, and the matching foal (purchased through an ad in JAH in 1996) beside her. I know she should be pitched or re-made, with her broken front leg and all, but how do you part with the one that started it all??? My next oldest (that I have owned) were the Breyer Clydesdale stallion, mare, and foal set from my grandparents. Sometime in between then and high school graduation, I acquired so many more, including a couple of Hagen-Renakers, the Breyer classic Mustang set, and some odd-ball pieces. Some I still have, others have been broken, or lost when moving.
Of course, my entire collection (numbering about 1200 pieces) cannot be shown on these pages, but I will give it a try! Besides horses, I also collect wildlife models, cats, dogs, cows, and really any animal that looks interesting! I also paint lots of ceramics and have kept a few, but most have been given away as gifts. So I guess I am the "weird one" in my family, always on the hunt for another pony to grace my shelves with its beauty (or not, as some of the horse shaped objects in my collection are kind of strange, :-))
I guess in ways we all want to hold onto just a little bit of nostalgia, but in my case I enjoy just looking at the herd in my horse room. I can remember where each and every one comes from and why it was purchased or given to me as a gift (lots of those--I am easy to buy for when it is gifting time!)
