Technology of Creating my Stories

I tried to create the stories in English, although my native language is Russian.

 

A. What I know

English is my Second Language. I wrote a book in English called 'Basis of Grammar'. Attorney and CPA, Steven Siegel, and English Teacher, Lucille Mc Mahon, discussed and checked this book.

I know Parts of Speech (grammar units): Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun, Preposition, Conjunction, and Verbals: Gerund, Participle, Infinitive, and Prepositional phrase.

I know the syntactic function of words in sentences (syntactic units): Subject, and Predicate, and Complement: Direct Object, Indirect Object, Subject Complement. I know the different kinds of Modifiers. Then I considered some of sentences using the Syntactic Units Patterns (1-23)

 

B. My instruments

Electronic Dictionaries:
        a) Super Compu-Disk 3000.
English- Russian/Russian-English Dictionary containing half million words; made in Israel in 1996.
        b) Language Teacher
Russian-English/English-Russian Dictionary contains one million words. Made in USA
        c) Merriam-Webster speaking dictionary & thesaurus, made by Franklin.

You can:
      -Find over 120,000 words, with comprehensive definitions, most of which contain parts of speech and usage examples,
     -See correction list, a word's synonyms, antonyms, and other related words using the build in the thesaurus.

I used also a Russian-English Dictionary containing 55,000 entries approximately, Russki Yazik, publishers Moscow 1991

 

C. Steps in Creating the Stories

1. Choosing the topic. (I have some different themes.)

2. Writing all that I knew about that theme (some parts in Russian and some parts in English). Maybe I had many mistakes.

3. Forming an outline of the story and numbering it.

4. Reading again the first draft and checking the draft against the outline (number) for the story.

5. Writing a new draft. (I wrote the whole draft in pencil in a notebook on the right side of the sheets.)

6. Elaborating the meaning of words. Russian words have many English synonyms. I have a problem with what synonyms I have to use. I translated it back into Russian. I would then understand the meaning of some words. I could reduce the number of English words, which I could use. I wrote residual synonyms in the column. All the time I edited my text.

7. Rewriting a copy on the left side in ink for my teacher Steve. He checked my story, sometimes changed my sentences and suggested new synonyms.

8. Printed that story on the computer. Now the computer has a powerful and correct syntax and grammar program, which also helps me to correct my text.

9. Giving it again to Steve for checking. I corrected all his remarks.

10. After that showing the story to another teacher. I discussed that correction with Steven. I corrected mistakes and sometimes resubmitted the story for the next correction.

The whole process continued sometimes 1-2 months.

As a result I can evaluate the value of each word.
