80
years birthday, 50 years of wedding, 5 years of chuppa
Speech
for kiddush for Sabbath
Irina Magid
1. Dear friends
This day we want to celebrate 80th Birthday of my husband Ilya, our 50th
wedding anniversary and 5 years of chuppa (a traditional wedding Jewish
ceremony) and share with you our happiness.
We arrived from the Soviet Union in 1991.
Baruch Ha-Shem Who let us come to this Special day. We owe a lot of Thanks
to Him for many good things:
-We are alive and have lived together for 50 years in spite of many troubles
in our lives.
-We are happy in our family with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
-We study Hebrew, Torah, Jewish Tradition, and all their subjects of which
we were deprived in the former Soviet Union.
-We try to be useful and help other people who need our help.
We enjoy every day, every moment because we don't know what will be in
the next moment. Let's enjoy now! This is a special date, place and reason
for our joy.
So, our Sabbath Holy Day, we devote are gratitude to Great Grad Ha-Shem.

2. In
the former Soviet Union all the time I felt anti-Semitism,
I knew nothing about Jewish Culture, Religion, and Jewish language.
We played along with the Russians.
Now, in America, I am proud that I am a Jew. I try to connect myself to
my Jewish roots.
Thank G-d, I am happy.
I have my beloved wife and we have had a happy fifty years together.
I have a dear daughter. (She was 7 years a 'refusenik'.)
I have a dear granddaughter and four Great grandchildren.
It is strange for me to hear in America that some Russians here pretend
to be Jews. The reason is that they want the public benefits available
only for the Jewish Refuges.
