The Rain In Spain...

...Maybe it falls mainly on the plains, I don't know.... I don't even got my money saved like Jane did... All I know is that I better start practicing my 'palabras', else I'm gonna have trouble finding a place to poop in Spain.... I guess there are nice little pictures on certain doors for us illiterate folks, though. Maybe the real question is how much bad Spanish TV does one man have to watch before he starts to understand the language or go completely insane??

Anyway, for those who don't already know, I'll be taking a short 'vacation' in Europe for a few weeks. A company from Spain that builds wind turbines is opening a new branch here in Ebensburg, PA and need some good 'ol corn-fed boys to run the joint. Word got out of my vast experience in instrument lessons, my genious at playing, my off the wall live performance and my hyper-uber giant fiberglass windmill blade production abilities and they just HAD to have me come across the pond to train in thier ways help them open thier new place near Flood City USA. Well, at first I said 'No' but they insisted they'd pick up the tab on all of everything, so I mulled it over for a while. 'What the hell' I finally thought. Why not, as long as I can make a few extra dollars, or euros or whatever. I think the euro is about 20 cents above the dollar, so I should be able to bring back some nice trinkets for my son. He's been wanting one of those half-scale Spanish Armada playsets with real cannon-fire action so that he can fight the Monitor and Merricmack ships Scott and I built for history class so many moons ago. Fifty to one and a new fleet versus two 18 year old relicks are great odds for him, but I just don't think Garrett yet realizes that youth and cunning isn't enough to overcome age and experince even when the deck is stacked. More likely he's not yet figured out what 'Ironclad' means, I don't know....kids.....

Anyhoo, Justinhale fans fear not because the show will go on even in my absence. You could be fortunate to see the Justinhale show in rare 'Eclectic Acoustic' form or perhaps a new mystery face may keep the electricity flowin'. In the works to fill in for me is my ex-band mate Jay Snyder, an ultra hip cat who some of you may remember as guitar player from 'Buddha's Magic Bike'. Jay has been kind enough to fill in a few gigs for JH on days when he's not playing with his heavy new band, 'Pivot', that is if we can get him to quit hitting on his Beatch to put down the pipe and wake up long enough to play a few notes. Don't worry folks, Jay is a good guy and well capable to do the deed and play the gig. Watch out, though thin skins, 'cause he's quick, rude and sarcastic as hell, but I'm sure you'll just love him anyway.

Onesie Cakediving

Angie and I would like to give thanks to everyone who came and/or contributed to Garrett's onesie party. The little boy sure had fun and now has quite a cache of new stuff to play with and says 'ba ba dah doi doi ya da da' in thanks. In fact, he was so impressed with the whole event he expressed an interest in making his birthday a twice a year thing. I assured him that once a year is quite enough as far as birthdays are concerned, but in keeping with tradition, he may celebrate more than one day if necessary, as long as he remembers which is the true date of his birth.

We had two cakes, one for Garrett and one for the guests. The guest cake was done up in Blue's Clues fashion in celebration of Garrett's favorite TV show -- it is possible that is his SECOND favorite show, but there were no really good deals on any 'Wiggles' cakes and Angie totally despises the 'Doodlebops', so no Dee Dee, Rooney or Moe Doodles allowed -- Do I watch too much kiddie TV or what????!?!?

Garrett's cake was the' traditional' happy face cake which was methodically two-fisted into dismemberment. He may be little, but it sure seemed he knew how to do the job in the macabre -- mouth first so it couldn't call for help, ears, then eyes leaving just a bare face, but with brain area in tact so it could still think and feel... ahhh, innocent little boys... Its way too close to Halloween, I think. For all of you who missed the cakediving event, I just got the pics back from the developer and I'll bring them out to the next show.

Practicing Responsibly Of all the things I've ever lost, I miss my lines the most... I've heard that a bass player that is not in the 'pocket' is just in the way. However, having a new son, working a day job, being in a band and just plain being lazy once in a while just for myself are all things that take away from the once great art of practicing. Yes, that necessary, focused noodling supposed to make us all better at our craft, neglected and laid to waste by responsibility and outside influence seems to have dulled my senses and made me less of the player I think I once was.

Not all is lost, though for every now and then a great storm or feigned illness interrupts the daily grind and I can stay home for some reflection and revitalization. On such days whilst digging through piles of cd's, books and papers , I usually find some kind of media snippet from the past that rekindles imagination and brings forth a good 'ol enriched practice session. These are the kinds of cherished days that come all too infrequently anymore, but music is the passion that always endures the ebb and flow of time and duty and I look forward to days that afford introspection.

Few things make me more confident in my playing than spending time 'woodshedding' with my instrument, so fellow musicians take heart and look past times you feel low points in your playing to those past times where you were inspired by your playing. Hopefully you'll be inspired to get out of the rut and back into the pocket.

GAEL:Harry Potter--- Glancing at Newgrounds

Its been a while since I released my flash spoof on Newgrounds.com. This latest episode of "A Glance at English Literature" takes a look at a quirk in the writhings of J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' series. Taken from a joke I'd cracked up at online, I created this short little toon just for the pure hilarity of it. I know its sick and wrong, but someone just had to do it!!!

What would happen if the letter 'd' in the word 'wand' happened to be changed to the letter 'g'? Like magic, Harry's wand becomes a wang and the series takes a new twist into the perverse. Hmmmm...... The Harry Potter phenomenon has made one author more rich than the Queen of England and with books distributed worldwide in ove 30 languages, she's reached millions of readers. Perhaps with the help of a magic wang, Ms. Rowling could very well triple her audience by including those within the adult entertainment industry.

Due to some stiff competition on the release date, GAEL: Harry Potter was edged out of a daily award, but was added to the NG Harry Potter collection and has a steady stream of viewers and bookmarks by NG users. Although I rushed its release and believe I should have done more, this flash is quickly approaching 20k views. I'm happy to say that GAEL has become my most popular flash yet..
