Here's where I'll rate games on a scale of 1-10 according to Sound, Gameplay, Graphics, and Overall.
TEKKEN 4
Developer: Namco
Release Year: 2002
System: PS2
Well, here we go again. Tekken has reached the fifth game in its series; a landmark few games have reached. It features a new combat system which features walls and hills(a Tekken first.) It is a game with a lot of potential.
Sound:
The game's sound is pretty standard fighting game fare. It has your basic hits, crunches, clangs, booms, screams, curses(you know, basic violent noises), etc. The hits, crunches, clangs, booms, yadda yadda yadda sound pretty good, and almost everybody says something(with the exclusion of, like, 4 or five characters out of 19.) The music is not half bad, when you can hear it over the battle noises. I found a lot of songs in the game to like, but it was somewhat depressing compared to the job on Tekken 3. Rating: 8.5/10
Graphics:
Okay, you pervs, let's get this overwith; Yes, there are scantily clad women. No, they're not more endowed than the DOA ladies. You can go now.
ANNNYWAYYS...The games graphics are pretty good. The characters look fairly realistic. Although honestly, I could've done without Heihachi. His first outfit is....revealing.../ . \ But odd clothing choices aside, the backgrounds are the best ever. People run around in your area. Some will stop and gawk at the catfight going on at the beach/mall/airport/whatever. But one stage is pretty cool: the Underground. The barrier consists of a crowd of people, whom you can hit, knock people into, etc. Now, the effect is somewhat unrealistic, but it's funny. Plus, the jaggies of the arcade version are toast thanks to an anti-aliasing(read: smoothing) option. Rating:9.5/10
Gameplay:
Here's your classic Tekken battle system, with a few changes. You don't duck the same way anymore, and combos you memorized just might be useless. Namco has tweaked the game so that there are less combos connected to random button presses. They have attempted to create a more realistic game here, and had Virtua Fighter 4 never existed, it would have likely been one of the most realistic fighters to date. There is an option for you to change the difficulty setting mid-game for those times when the AI is cheating(read: mercilessly steamrolling you), and a training option that runs you thru a few possible moves. It's fairly cheap, really. The practice options are decent, with the basic bells and whistles included: whole list of moves with a demo, different AI situation controls, and the ablity to allow second player control. The Tekken Force mode is either improved or ruined, compared to how you viewed Tekken 3's version. Hordes of enemies overrun your character as you bust your way through four fun(and enemy)-filled stages. Did I mention the HORDES of enemies?Rating: 10/10
Overall (average of above): 9.3/10
