BREATH OF FIRE II |
| The SNES hit by Capcom returns to the Game Boy Advance. It is back with an exchange mode, and a build-your-own-town option. It's classic turn-based RPG Action with our buddy Ryu(no, not the fireball guy) and his zoo of friends. What, you think I'm throwing metaphors here? No, Ryu's friends are all animal/people hybrids of some sort; there's a dog-person, a cat-person, a frog-person, some weird giant horse, and a girl with wings, to name a few. But it's all good. |

| Sound: |
| Well, it's really an old SNES port, so the sounds are not really all that good. They're passable, but kind of blah. The music is not half bad, but it's somewhat boring. You have somewhat formulaic music. There's your "oh no, we're in a battlle" music, your "check out the creepy dungeon" music, and your "boring sleepy village" themes. It's good, but repetitive. And you'll absolutely hate it if all you've played are Final Fantasy games and you just couldn't IMAGINE a game without interesting, varied music. |

| Graphics: |
| Ok, once again, this is an SNES port. Of a second generation SNES game. Keep that in mind. The graphics are not great. And yet, they are. The animation in the game is pretty good, but somewhat repetitive. The special effects aren't extremely special, but you know...They're actually pretty nice, you probably won't get bored. |

| Gameplay: |
| Well, this is the moment of truth. Most SNES era games were supposed to rely on their gameplay. BOFII is no exception. The game's system is rock solid. Turn based battle systems are decent. One cool thing is the special abilities. There's hunting, fishing, and town building(new to the GBA version). Every character has some sort of neat field ability. One guy can swim and hop over hills, and one person can keep you from falling into traps. You can find these "Shamans" that enhance characters' powers and change their appearances. You can now suspend your data at any time. There are a few minor things, though. Why does using an AP-charging item take HP away? Why does Ryu's Dragon Transformation take away all of his HP? Why does the character switching option seem so limited? Flaws aside, Breath of Fire 2 is a good game for fans of the game, and a nice solid RPG game. |
