| 2101 AD: Humankind has reached many new heights in technology. Hovercars soar through towering skyscrapers. The Internet is accessed with the mind, and one browses the net with their soul. All aspects of Web functions have changed to reflect this. Games are no exception. Games such as Phantasy Star Online live on in new games where one can completely customize their online appearances and program their own abilities into the game. A user on this game gets to experience it in such a way that people today can scarcely dream of. One group of teens, centered in New St. Louis, plays an online game called "Universe Quest" has shown itself as one of the top ranked online teams in the world. |

| One night, in the middle of a mission, this team experiences a serious system crash that sends all the users off line. But even though the users were no longer on the game, they retained their powers and online appearance. |

| Across town, an employee at Bolt Media, the developers behind Universe Quest, tries to delete a virus. But it turns out to be more than a typical virus when it merges with a user. That user becomes Cybermorph. |

| Bolt Media, in an attempt to clear up the problem, investigates the incident. The employee, a manager/user named Daniel Wolfang, is discovered to have somehow gained powerful abilities based on his online persona, which was modified for virus scanning and deletion. In a search for others affected by the "Cyber" virus, they discover that the top-ranked online team has been affected. They are hired to stop Cybermorph, as well as police the Internet for trouble. Little does anyone realize that there are others out there who have been affected by the Cyber virus; not all of them are intent on keeping the peace... |

A year later, an important event occurs--The Arakni incident. Tereza Kline was a friend of OF member Angela Winters, aka Linear. Tereza loved to play UQ. She had a character--Arakni that was half spider. Arakni had the proportionate strength and agility of a spider. She could spin webs that were nearly impossible to break out of. She had an exoskeleton that a .45 could not pierce, and six arms. She also had telepathic ability. But when Cybermorph infected Universe Quest, she was affected differently from the OF, as she was nearer to Cybermorph. She started to manifest another personality altogether. This personality became very dangerous. The Arakni-personality was obsessed with creating more of her kind. She discovered through Eliza that Winters was an OF member. So she began to attack the OF, with plans in mind. Arakni managed to trick Angela into thinking she was actually Eliza, attempting to take advantage of her new abilities. This prompted Angela to protect her from the OF's judgement. But this was a mistake. Arakni succeeded in separating Angela from the OF. She then attempted to turn Linear into an Arachnoid. But the OF had been monitoring Angela's movements, fearing that something similar would happen. Omega sent Helen Eternia, their newest member, to stop Arakni and save Angela. Before fighting with Helen, however, Arakni put Angela into a trance. Helen managed to hurt Arakni severely. Arakni trapped Eternia in a web, and escaped by leaping over the rooftops.. Helen managed to break out of the web. She went after Arakni. Meanwhile, Linear fought to get out of the trance. She couldn't manage to get free, because she could not face the fact that she might have to kill Arakni, and with her, her friend.
When Helen and Linear found Arakni, Arakni had mutated into a monster. But before Arakni had a chance to react, Eliza managed to regain dominance in her mind. She begged for Angela to kill her before the monster took over forever. But upon learning that Eliza's personality still existed, Angela hesitated. Arakny began to attack, and Helen moved to stop her. But Arakni swatted Eternia away, and only Linear stood in Arakni's path. Linear finally decided to fulfill her friend's wish. She used her powerful magic to destroy Arakni. Upon her last breath, Arakni swore that she would return and seek vengeance. Linear told the OF soon after that she was resigning from the Force. Nothing as of yet has managed to persuade Linear to return. |
