Untitled Interview with Rodney Reyes

1. Your favorite Paul Harris trick and why?

I forgot the title of the effect. but the trick where you borrow a spectators dollar bill and you change the secretary of treasures name to the spectators. It’s the strongest effect I’ve seen in magic.

2. When, where and how did you meet Paul Harris?

I met Paul in San Diego many years back during a magic convention. this is my first dip into Paul’s reality and sensibility for life. while conventioneers were enthusiastic running around, watching magic and checking out the day's events, Paul was quietly sitting on the floor against the wall. young kids were crouched next to him anticipating his questions and answers. some might look at the situation thinking Paul has seen a lot of magic(true) and was at a momentary pause to just relax but I gathered a view of a man who just enjoyed "being". i didn't say much to him, nor bugged him about his past or future for it didn't feel important, i sat along and listened.

3. How did you get involved on the true astonishment DVD project?

A friend of Paul’s who enjoyed my work from a previous DVD I produced a couple years back told me about Paul’s future project, it didn't sound serious at the time until Paul called me from Vegas and said, "I’m here". life for me changed 360 degrees afterwards. the study of astonishment begin...

4. What is your favorite story while hanging out with Paul?

I’ve spent a lot of time with Paul, more than others. hmm, my favorite...there are so many as Paul has lived a life of constant learning, like any man. for me I think the greatest story, untold to date was the time Paul gave a random cab driver $30,000 out of the blue. Paul was in the point of pushing the envelope of experiential self astonishment, letting everything go was one of his experiments. I cannot conclude it was successful, but i can attest to the fact he lives a life of serenity and solitude as he has found something, a certain glow, a fragile flicker of constant astonishment that he silently communes with through out the day. enough said.
