Brecks Holiday Club

Where have we been?

We have been to Helmsley in North Yorkshire on a few occasions now, but in 2000 we decided to branch out a bit and save hard for something a bit more adventurous. So at Jubilee weekend in 2002 we went to the Isle of Wight to a SAGA (sorry Warners) hotel at Bembridge. We had a fabulous time as you can see from the photos.

In October 2002 we made our annual visit to Helmsley and, for the first time, were joined by Tom and Judy Knight. They thoroughly enjoyed it and we were very pleased to have them along.

The outline of the week was as follows:-

Saturday - Settled in and went a short walk before the Tesco shop arrived at 1500 hours. Tea at Trevor and Kaths above the ice cream shop. David and Janet arrived at midnight.

Sunday - Travelled to Grosmont to see the War Weekend on the NYMR. Went a short? walk and then headed for the Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge for a marvellous Sunday lunch/tea. Thanks to Kath for organising this. Team photo to follow when John loans it for me to scan

Monday - Some of the crowd had never been to Filey before. They have now!! Parked on the cliff top and then walked along Filey Brigg. After much needed sustenance in a cafe that thought all it's weeks customers had come at once we travelled to Scarborough. Another first, Trevor and Judy on a bus!! We did a 'Park and Ride' down to the seafront but Tom didn't get his bingo. Back to Helmsley for dinner at Castle Cottage followed by Perudo.

Tuesday - A day out in York shopping at the McArthur Glenn outlet and then into the centre for the last two hours. Boys went to the pub that had a problem with it's sewers. Went to ASK for tea, a very romantic Italian restaurant with palm trees and a marble columns. Thanks to Fiona for sourcing.

Wednesday - Tom and Trevor have dicky tummys from the meatballs last night. Went swimming at Pickering. Then the boys went to the brewery at Cropton and we're not sure what the girls did but we had tea back at Castle Cottage.

Thursday - Travelled to Robin Hood's Bay and then some of the party walked to Whitby. (6.5 miles). Met up in a pub by the harbour and then tea at Trenchers. Marvellous!!!

Friday - Lazy day in Helmsley for some. Not for Tony and Elaine. They did 11 miles from Terrington on part of the Ebor Way. Tom and Judy prepared the evening meal and we watched the fireworks while they did it!!

Saturday - Left Helmsley sadly for another year. The landlord at the Royal Oak will have to scrimp by in the intervening weeks.

See the photos soon!
