My "UFO" Experience
This is a recounting of an experience I had in early 1992.
I was on a drive in the Southern California desert with a friend of mine.
I was about one in the morning. We had been to Stateline, Nevada and were returning
home to Victorville, CA. We were going through Baker, CA when we decided that
since the next day was Sunday we would take our time and explore a different
route home.
We turned south on Kel-Baker road which was a very little used road that connected
Baker and a small railroad siding named Kelso. Kelso was 20 or so miles south
of Baker and the road was only barely wide enough for two cars to pass although
that would be a very rare occurrence. There was not even a dividing line between
lanes. This was a road I had not been down for many years and then it was daytime.
This was also a road that I had traveled down a few times on outings with my
parents in the 1960's when we would go to places in the California desert to
camp on weekends.
After we had passed Kelso and were still going south the road started turning into patches of dirt every couple of miles. We continued on as I had been down this road about 5 years before and knew it went through. About 10 or 15 miles south of Kelso we stopped the car to get out and stretch our legs. I looked up in the sky and saw a bright light that looked like an aircraft landing light about a mile or two away from us. The strange thing was that at that distance I should have been able to hear some noise, weather it was a fixed wing or helicopter but I could hear no noise. We then got back in the car and continued on our way.
As we were moving south I noticed that the light was still there and seemed to be following our track. We went about another 20-25 miles to the intersection of Old Highway 66 about 10 miles south of Interstate 40 near the town of Essex. The light was still there. As we were coming down a grade from I-40 to Highway 66 I was watching something in the desert a few miles ahead of us. There was a bright orange glowing object that must have been the size of a small factory or very large building judging by the apparent size from where we were at the time I first saw it.
I kept track of this object as we moved closer. I could tell by familiarity with the area, (I have frequented this area many times in the few years before this), that the object must have been close to the Old Woman Mountains and probably 5 miles from Highway 66.
When we turned West on Highway 66 I kept track of the object and it did not seem to move from it's spot. We continued for about 15-20 miles to Amboy, CA and then turned south toward Twenty Nine Palms. At the turn there is a Large volcanic crater known as Amboy Crater. There is a large lava flow for about 1-2 miles around it. This was the place were I first saw lights, probably 5 or 6 of them, moving rapidly among the lava flows. I knew that no vehicle I knew of could possibly navigate the lava flows and especially not at the speed these were. The only thing that could move that fast over these flows would be a very low flying craft and then it would have been very dangerous, especially at night.
I am very familiar with the terrain of this area as I have hiked these lava flows 2 times and have been to this place many times in my life. This was always one of my favorite places. I scared my friend when I woke him to show him what I was watching. He nearly came out of his skin. I pointed these lights out to him and then showed him the orange glowing out in the lake bed and he was very frightened.
I talked him into letting me stop the car and we got out and hiked into the desert to try to get a better look. We were about 10 miles south of Amboy by time. We hiked about 1/2 mile and watched from there. We observed the orange light and many other small white lights that were to our vantage like car headlights in the distance only much brighter.
From our viewpoint at a higher elevation than most of the valley in front of us, we could see for miles. The orange lights seemed to be about 5-7 miles in front of us just at the base of Old Woman Maintains. There were probably 10 or so small white lights that were moving rapidly around the area of Old Highway 66 and further south and around Amboy Crater. These continued this activity for the entire time we were observing this scene.
There was also the original bright light we saw that seemed to have followed us, stationed over the lake bed off to our right slightly and seemed to be about 1,000 feet over the lake bed. It just seemed to hover there motionless for the entire time we were observing the events. It did not make any sound the whole time we were there. It did seem to waver some from side to side maybe 25 - 50 feet but for the most part it was stable.
There was also some lights in the brush a few hundred feet from our location that kind of reminded me of what you would see if someone was walking toward you while holding out an old fashioned lantern. The lights kind of swayed from side to side a little. I had the impression that someone was walking toward us but I don't remember ever making contact or even seeing anything except the lights.
Near the area where the orange lights were was also 3 lights that seemed to be acting as search lights. Two of them were scanning out around the area where the orange lights were and probably 1/2 mile beyond. One seemed to be fixed on the area in it's immediate vicinity.
To our rear there was a small range of mountain. Over these there were lights that looked like medium brightness stars except that these particular lights were in a perfect triangular pattern that, if they were close to us would have been about 2 miles apart from each other. We were watching the events that night for about 6 hours and as the other star patterns changed as the earth rotated these lights stayed in the same place.
We watched the goings on that night from about 2 am until about 8 am. As the Sun came up in the east and got brighter, the light over the lake bed got dimmer until it just faded out. The main set of orange lights all of a sudden just floated down to the ground and disappeared from view.
We drove to the other side of the lake bed to the area that we thought the orange lights were but after searching for 4 hours we gave up finding any clues of what it may have been.
A couple of notes:
1. This activity took place about 50 miles from the epicenter of the Landers and Big Bear earthquakes which happened about 4 months later.
2. Also this event proceeded by about the same time the beginnings of my psychic awakenings. I have since that time been getting more information about the spiritual world and have noticed a psychic awareness that manifests itself in a marked increase in my intuitive abilities. I am now a Tarot reader and am told by almost all I read for that I am very accurate and have noticed that at times I can tell people things about themselves that I could not have known.
3. In Landers there exists a building that was built by an acquaintance of
Nikola Tesla based on his ideas, called the Integratron. This device was supposed
to amplify a person's psychic abilities. It was never finished and now is rented
out by someone in Los Angeles to persons or groups who want to use it for whatever
reasons.
