My Beliefs (Or some of them, at least)

This is still a work in progress

This is an attempt to organize my beliefs and provide some background information to explain why I believe the things I do.

First, I believe humankind is a spiritual force. By that I mean that we are entities that are living a short part of our existence in a physical body. This physical body is made of the elements found on the planet we have chosen to inhabit. The body is in no way related to who we are. I believe we have chosen to incarnate here on the Earth for some reason that necessitated the "taking on" of a physical body. Some believe this is to facilitate learning lessons that can only be learned in this type of incarnation.

Although I generally agree with this assessment of our reason for doing this, I am still undecided as to if this is the reason or maybe even just one of many reasons. I will need further experience to form a more solid belief on this. Some believe this incarnation is a punishment that we have to "work through" in order to get back to our state of being we were in before we were incarnated here. This belief has merit, although I don't feel it fits in with my beliefs on universal love.

Humankind has powers it does not recognize. These powers are just beginning to be suspected. I believe we are co-creators of this "reality" we all share. Look around and see the creative powers of humankind. From the wonderful works of art to the cities and all the manufactured items. Also witness the economic systems we have created. We create many things. As I heard it said once: "Everything man creates starts out as an idea in someone's mind" This is very true. Not only that, but many things humankind creates are an idea someone has that is collaborated on by many, sometimes thousands, of other individuals. This shows a connected-ness within the human race. Whatever humankind can imagine, humankind can create.

I believe we are all connected in very real ways. Quantum physics is beginning to show there is a connection between every atom and even sub-atomic particle. When two photons (particles of light) collide, we get two photons whose size added together are larger than the sum of the two original photons. Not only that but we get other sub-atomic particles that are believed to be the building blocks of atoms, the actual raw material to create matter. I believe it is no coincidence that these building blocks of matter are created from light energy. Almost all the great religions of the world have some belief in the "Light" that is the source of all life.

We have created an illusion we call "reality". We created it for some reason. Let's say it was to provide a way to have experiences that lead to greater spiritual awakenings. Maybe it is just a way to provide entertainment for souls that have been around so long that nothing was new to them so they created this illusion to entertain themselves. Maybe this is all a game and we just keep on playing until everyone realizes it. I choose to believe the former, that we are using this illusion to learn.

So what lessons are we trying to learn? What could necessitate such a complex illusion that we felt necessary to create and then forget it is an illusion? I think it is because there are many things we can learn about love and connected-ness that would be very hard to learn in a situation where we are not seemingly separate from each other. We need to see ourselves as separate individuals in order to learn about love for others. Unconditional love is a very hard concept for people who see themselves as different from others.

Why do you think we have created so many different races of humans, with all the differences from one race to another? What better way to teach love than in a classroom such as this. After many lifetimes and experiences, one begins to realize that what they do to others eventually affects them as well. This happens so slowly that many times the lesson is lost on the individual involved and may have to be repeated many times for it to sink in. But when it does, it becomes a powerful lesson.

We are in a place in the development of the human race where we are at a crossroads. Turn one way and we can end up destroying the progress the human race has made up to this point. Turn the other way and we can see a "quantum leap" in the development of the human race. Those that understand this are trying to get this information out to others so the human race's enlightenment can be enhanced to that critical mass needed for the quantum leap.

There are many distractions we, as a race, have designed to keep our minds off spiritual development. One of the most effective has been the economic system we have. In order to live and provide for ourselves we find it necessary to earn money in some way. We need to earn money to pay the bills. If we decide to "drop out" of this system and just live on the street, we are still costing society something, only we have shifted the burden of making our living to someone else. We have also caused a significant decrease in our own quality of life.

There seems no practical way to get away from having to make a living and still have a good quality of life. Everyday we are faced with the necessity of earning a living. Then the methods we have developed to make a living tie into a system that is set up to de-humanize us. To make us further forget that we are the co-creators of this "reality". We have to work for someone to make a living. Those that are the ones that own the businesses that employ us are also dependant on others for their needs to run their businesses. Even self-employed depend on others to buy their product or service. We do not seem to be able, on a mass scale, to create a situation where all can do something they enjoy to make a living and at the same time have time and energy for spiritual development.

The end result is stress. Most people are under a lot of stress in their daily life. We have to make a living and must do things we do not want to do to stay employed. Many people today feel bad about their job, but keep working at it because they make a living at it. People believe that if you have a job that supports you, you should do whatever is necessary to keep that job. People will do many things they feel bad about in the name of making a living.

Add to that the idea that is drilled into our heads everyday that we need to have the latest and newest things to be happy. The economy depends on a flow of money. Therefore we are indoctrinated into the belief that we need things to be happy. We need to be good consumers to keep money flowing through the economy. If money flow slows down we see a decline in the economy and inflation raises and things get more expensive. As this happens it causes a spiral effect that makes the situation even worse.

This is spiraling inflation and it needs to be checked. So then the government comes out with some lie like "things are ok, we will lower interest rates" so that we can believe the lie and start spending money again. As we spend more money the economy gets better and inflation goes down.

It is all an illusion based on peoples' perceptions of the economy. No wonder there is such stress involved in living within such a system. Even explaining how this works takes one's mind off spiritual issues. It's no wonder many religious philosophies consider money evil. However, this is what we have as a system right now.

So we created a system where people base their self-worth on how many things they own. They try to impress each other with their possessions. People have even developed an image that someone that has a lot of money must be more worthy of affection and respect that one who does not. So people strive to be someone with lots of monetary assets. This begins the spiral again, with all the related stress.

The economy cannot continue like this for long. There will have to be a "correction" that will devalue peoples' money. The value of their possessions will fall. There is no such thing as money. There is only symbols of money. The paper and coin we use to symbolize money is worthless unless we believe it has value. What if something happens that causes masses of people to take their money out of banks and hoard it? This money is then not in circulation and not propping up the economy. The economy spirals downward and crashes. The money people hoarded becomes worthless, or near worthless, and the economy fails. What then?

What this society needs is something that causes it to get back to simpler lifestyles. We are now living in a world that has gone insane with runaway consumerism. We have no regard for the environment or ecology. We continue to use up resources and pollute the environment at record levels.

We cannot continue this way. We have all been educated about the problems associated with this mode of living, but we only make token gestures to change it. The reality is that corporate entities make it nearly impossible to change. Products are ever more packaged in such ways that they waste more and more resources. I recently bought a package of cheese that was sliced. There were 96 slices. There was no need for paper dividers between the slices, but they were there. Or how about soft drinks in packages that are non-recyclable. One of the worst offenders is the beef industry where a pound of beef takes up 10 pounds of grain to produce. Not only that but requires many acres of land to graze during its life. How irresponsible we, as a human race, are to prefer things that use the most resources. The cattle grazing problem is causing corporations to destroy vast amounts of forest lands in the name of grazing these extremely inefficient animals, just so we can have a 99 cent hamburger that is killing us with fat and cholesterol. Why not instead develop a taste for other more efficient foods, and use the surplus to help feed those that are our fellow humans in other less fortunate parts of the world.

Why should we continue to pursue possession of things just for the sake of having them at the expense of those in other parts of the world that make these things at basically slave labor wages and conditions. Wake up and see that these things come to us at relatively low cost because someone else is footing part of the bill with their sweat or even their lives. We see it on TV all the time, but we turn our eyes from it and pretend we have nothing to do with it.
