Living and working in the Land of the Morning Calm

I lived and worked in South Korea for two and a half years, from July 2002 to December, 2004. For the first year and a half I worked at Youngdo English School, and these page talks about my experiences there. For the second year I worked at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and those experiences can be found here.

Youngdo English School

My work schedule for the first month was from 8:45am to 8:00pm.  It was the summer vacation for the students from regular school, so all of the classes were given in three-hour intensives.  After intensives the teachers usually have a week off, and then I will return to work and my hours will be from 4pm-10pm until the winter intensives in December.

Text Box: From left to right on the top:  My front door, which faces east. Then my blue plastic drawers which are my dresser and my shoe cabinet and two black suitcases. Lastly, my TV, which only gets two English channels.  Next to those is my TV stand. On the bottom are pics of the bathroom, which had no separate shower, just a drain in the floor. It was different, but very easy to clean. Just spray everything!

Above are the bars that they gave me for a closet and my back door. The pink bag on the right is thre garbage, because if I put it on the floor I get ANTS! To the right is the bookcase that I picked up from outside.  We think it was probably from another teacher who was only staying a year because there isn't a scratch on it, and it is really neat cherry wood.  It is perfect for my computer and all of my pictures! Sorry about the photo editing, at the time I was staying here I had only a small web camera that didn't take very good photos, and if I try to edit them now I lose what little resolution I have!

Text Box: To the left is the cougar that my father gave me for good luck and protection in my travels. I just want to let everyone know how much I love it here.  I had read stories online of people who were not satisfied with their jobs or their apartments, and I know that some people get into bad situations.  But I did my research on the school, and talked to some other teachers, and I love my apartment, the staff, the students, and the food!
