NIGHT CLUBS
GPO:
This club has a 6 Euro cover charge most of the time, though some nights, as with all clubs, you can get passes for free admission or have student discounts. At this club, there are more oldies or disco music playing. Typical songs you would hear include “Build me up Buttercup,” songs by Aretha, Madonna, Paul Simon, Bryan Adam’s “Summer of 69,” and last but definitely not least …Michael Jackson. One time Michael Jackson actually made a guest appearance and skunk eagled the whole entire crowd! Maybe not, but I wish. It’s Music you know all the words to, but always forget about giving the club an overall feel of a middle-school dance minus “Stairway to Heaven” and awkward slow dancing. It is a great club for going crazy on the dance floor and belting out the words. “I bought my first real six string,/ BA NA NA NA/Bought it at the five and dime …” then add a little 80’s kick at the end and I’d say your night is complete. You get the point.
Central Park (also known as “CP’s”):
This is one of our favorite spots to go to for fun and harassment. Once you get past the bouncers (sometimes you have to apologize for your behavior last time), there is usually a 6-10 euro cover charge, but again they have student deals on random nights. Here there is newer, more recent music played in general but they still play some songs we forgot even existed. Some of our favorites include: “Accidentally in Love” (Counting Crows), “Call on Me” (Erik Prydz), “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” (The Darkness), and our absolute fave DA DA DA DAAAAAA… “PONY” (Genuine)… dedicated to you, Pony, our favorite fellow clubber. There are typically lots of students at this club and it doesn’t start bouncing until around 12 or 12:30, BUT if you want to get in without a “queue” make sure you get there at around 11:30. That will leave you with plenty of time to down a few bevies before you hit the dance floor anyways.
Cuba:
This is one of lesser favorite spots with a cover charge from between 6 and 10 euros. Inside there is again the student crowd, along with two floors of different music. There are live bands performing on the top floor playing a mixture of there own stuff and tunes we know. The bottom floor is DJ style who plays a mix between GPO and CPs It is pretty popular with the kids though we prefer other spots. They usually hand out free passes to Cuba a lot of the time, so keep your eyes peeled!
