Excerpt from Prince Philip Secunda II of Augutain's "Bestiary of Mun's Known Air, Sea, and Land Creatures"
Known Beasts of Mun
Air Whale - Air Whales are enormous flying whales which drift above the skies of Mun. Despite their vast size, Air Whales are generally peaceful and will fight only if provoked. Not a great deal is known about Air Whale's physiology and their diet, which leads many to wonder if these creatures are in some way magical. While Air Whales can be found anywhere on Mun, they are most common above South Arrale and the Malyddi Mountains.
Boarkin - Boarkin resemble extremely large wild boars. Covered with a thick layer of dark fur, Boarkin weigh in at between 1500 to 2500 lbs, generally averaging averaging around 2000 lbs. Boarkin have been domesticated and serve a variety of functions across Mun for their owners. Boarkin are generally used as mounts by the larger sentient races of Mun, most notably the Trolls and Wolvers of Ede Rame.
Dragon - Dragons are a race on the verge of extinction. Dragons are huge fire-breathing, scaly and horned lizard-like creatures, with leathery wings, four legs and a long muscular tail. Dragons are rumored to be highly-intelligent with the ability to work magicks, however there is no known evidence of such a thing. Beyond this, Dragons are noted as being widely varied creatures whose thick scales can come in a variety of different colors, but most dragons appear to have green or green-brown scales. Size and weight are also widely varient, with some dragons being a few tens of feet long to dragons being literally hundreds of feet long and weighing in at upwards of thirty tons. There are no known dragons in Ede Rame, but rumors persist amongst the halflings of dragons living in Arrale.
Elf-Hound - Elf-Hounds are named for their long association with the elven nations of Ede Rame. Elf-Hounds are generally recognizable by their forest-green and brown fur, which is found in no other known breeds in Ede Rame. Elf-Hounds are large dogs, standing about 25-35 inches tall at the shoulder and are noted for their great intelligence and ability to understand (but not speak) sentient language. Elf-Hounds have been used extensively by elven militaries in past times, either as messengers, scouts, or war dogs.
Frogkin - Frogkin resemble extremely large frogs. Frogkin can be upwards of three feet tall, weigh in at 500-1000 lbs. and are covered in a bright-green, slimy skin. Frogkin are highly trainable and have been tamed amongst the smaller races of Mun for many centuries. Most notably, the goblins of Karthago have used Frogkin-mounted warriors as a light-cavalry force to great effect in the past.
Giant Scorpion - The Giant Scorpion is amongst the most feared beasts in Mun. Resembling a large Scorpion, Giant Scorpions are covered with a thick exo-skeleton which is highly resistant to gunfire. Giant Scorpions have been used on many battlefields by various military leaders, however their highly ferocious personalities often mean that Giant Scorpions are often dangerous to their users.
Giant Tortoise - Giant Tortoises are enormous turtles which plod along on land. Giant Tortoises are massive but very gentle and generally spend their days wandering about, searching for food. Giant Tortoises have been used by sentient races to perform a variety of tasks, (generally lugging or towing great loads due to their enormous strength.) Historically, Giant Tortoises have been used on the battlefield to house archers and break enemy lines. Giant Tortoises have a thick shell which is impervious to gunfire and highly resistant to artillery fire.
Great Flea - Great Fleas are enormous fleas which are indigenous to the desert areas of Mun, although their hardiness makes sure that they can travel nearly anywhere. Great Fleas weigh between four hundred and seven hundred pounds and are notable for their ability to leap between thirty and fifty feet upwards and a hundred feet forward. Great Fleas are notably stupid creatures, but they have been compelled to obey
Griffon - A Griffon is a large creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Griffons are noted for their ability to be tamed and incredible intelligence. Most notably, elves have made use of Griffons in warfare to carry elven warriors into battle. Griffons are savage in battle, but amazingly loyal to their masters and will never back down from battle once engaged.
Grossezwiebel - The fearsome Grossezwiebel is feared throughout Arrale and South Arrale as an endlessly hungry creature. Grossezwiebel are enormous plant-creatures, which appear to be a vast, bloated mass of plant matter which can move surprisingly quickly on tentacle-like vines. These vines can also be used to pull creatures into its cavernous mouth which will then cover the victim with acid to assist with digestion.
Ostrik - The Ostrik is a large, flightless bird that is used across Ede Rame, Ost Rame, and Ede Pono for transportation. Ostriks are noted transportation amongst nearly all the peoples of Mun. While Ostriks have a single physical appearance, their feathers are widely varied in color.
Pegasus - Pegasi are winged horses that are somewhat more wild than their land-bound cousins. Pegasi have a history of use amongst the races of Ede Rame, most notably amongst the elves.
Serpent - Serpents are vast sea creatures that are like dragons in their appearance, although they lack their land-based brethren's wings. Serpents can breath both on land and below water but they are far more comfortable underwater. Further, Serpents tend to be extremely intelligent, yet are feared by sailors the world over.
Wyvern - Wyverns are smaller versions of their larger cousins, Dragons. Wyverns are about thirty to forty feet long and weigh several tons, and are extremely savage fighters and have, in times past, been used to carry soldiers into battle. Wyverns also lack the greater intelligence of their dragon brothers but do have their fire-breath.
