Harry Potter V: Severely Under
Ordered in Non-English Speaking Countries

On June 23rd 2003, two days after the world-wide release of the fifth HARRY POTTER book, stores carrying the aforementioned volume were assaulted, and the book was sold out, some places in a matter of hours!

As a matter of fact, in Italy, where only 15,000 copies of the book had been imported, it sold out in three hours, even though the book was all in English, and sold in only 20 bookstores all over the country. Bear in mind, also, that Italy is not a native English-speaking country.

The book was certainly under-bought, and the fans in Italy had to wait a minimum of 22 days for stores to refurnish. Many Italian Potter fans were shocked at hearing how quickly the book had sold out. Potential buyers, many of whom had had to undertake long journeys to reach the few spots where the book was sold, were only told upon arrival. Others, thinking that the English-scribed book would not sell quickly, had a harsh wake-up call. This is only more evidence of the popularity of the boy-wizard's adventures, whatever the language.

Store owners claim they didn't expect the book to sell out so fast, some didn't think it would sell out at all.

By August 3rd 2003, Bloomsbury Publishing House (the English publishers of Harry Potter) were already on their third reprint of the thick novel, authored by Great Britain's most prosperousn children's author, JK Rowling.

Over a month on from the official release of the English edition of OotP, release dates have been set for the release of various translations, others are as of yet, unannounced. We can only hope that the same under-estimations are not made of the Potter book in any other countries.
